NGD: 2003 PRS Artist Custom 24

I'm digging em. No plans to change em, for now.
Restrung and set it up last night. Previous owner had the trem slammed/decked. Took some finessing to get it dialed in, but now it plays slick, like melted butter!

Beautiful! I had a 2006 Custom 22 with similar top for several years.

Couldn't fault it and it sounded great, although perhaps it was TOO easy to play. I like the way a Tele or Strat or even an LP can challenge me sometimes.

But I always wanted a Custom 22 or 24 with a nicely flamed maple top in Black Cherry, and that is bound to happen at some point.

I get that. There is something to be said about the struggle playing some guitars. I think brings out tones easier playing guitars dont touch on.
Black cherry flamed maple. Yeah baby! Go get that beauty.

Not me, I love an easy to play guitar. PRS qualifies. You guys aren't my helping my situation here, LOL. There is a sweet custom 22 that's been on Austin CL for a while in the 1700 dollar range. I wish I had the $.

You're in Austin? Dunno about now, but that used to be the mecca for cool used gear. I drove down from DFW, under the guise of a romantic weekend with my gf at the time, to pick up my fav Bogner ever.

You owe it to yourself to at least go check it out. Maybe it sux. Maybe you'll love it, and then find a way.

I'm south of Austin a few minutes but after spending over 2k on a 335 last october, which is the most I've ever dropped on a guitar, the PRS has to wait. TBH I'd settle for an SE but yeah, I'd love to own an American made one like you got before Paul dies cause I suspect the company will go into decline once he's gone. Thanks for the encouragement LPMojo. One day bro, one day.

I'm nothing if not the devil on the shoulder to help a fellow gear head get what he truly wants. That's what makes communities like this so special. Lol
When I bought that 335, which was the most I had spent on a guitar up to that point, and simultaneously grabbed the SLO...that was by far the most $ I spent on gear at one time. I was freaking out. Like, really freaking out. WTF have I done!?!
Turns out, it was a very positive thing.
Go for it!

Man, if I could I would. TBH I need to get my truck back on the road and maybe find a part time job. I've kinda put it off while I've spent time finishing out my house which is where all my $ is sunk into. At that point I can start socking away a few bucks towards the PRS of my dreams. I look at the wait in a positive light; as a way to determine what I really want the most.

The longer the wait, the sweeter the reward.
Life stuff comes first for sure.

Yeah, unfortunately, lol. I told myself this year I need to use what gear cash I do have to maintain my gigging equipment. Me and the wife have both sold off some axes paying down debts. I have some blown speakers that need reconed, an old amp that needs serviced, and a guitar that needs a fret dressing. I was gonna knock out the fret dressing this week but the tech is out of town visiting his family.

What speakers are you reconing?

I gotta JBL K-120 that's blown and wanna buy a 2nd one and get them back into my Twin. At that point I can offload some other speakers to help cover the cost. JBL's are basically my favorite.

Yeah and the K model takes the abuse in a Twin. With a 335 that's pretty much a bluesman's delight....
I can imagine, having a Dual Showman with 15" JBLs. That amp and some choice pedals is fantastic with my p90 Tele and Gibsons.
@scottosan recently scored a Twin RI, and has been enjoying it.
There's something about those old circuits, straight in, or with od/fuzz/dist pedals that just works. Especially in a band setting. What seems harsh or difficult to manage at home, comes alive in the mix.

Yeah, agreed. I bought vintage Twins because you can get a vintage handwired amp for really reasonable that way. They do usually seem a bit harsh with gig settings at home, but at a gig with the band they sound great. I used to just run it straight in but started taking an OD to gigs for some more sustain. Then Waynzo here made me a couple pedals and I have a small board now. That was last year......between gear and traveling to some society gigs I spent too much money.

Let's see it!

Honestly need to snap some photos of the neck and back, as the red back and neck with the mahogany grain popping through looks great.

Love that deep maroon. Gorgeous. I usually don't care for gold hardware, but it really pops on these PRS guitars.

They pop at reasonable volumes with pedals. Easier on the earholes.
I was inspired one day, running the DS thru a Mesa vert 2x12, and a bunch of pedals. Dont remember what guitar. But here's the noise I made that day if you have time to waste:
