They pop at reasonable volumes with pedals. Easier on the earholes.
I was inspired one day, running the DS thru a Mesa vert 2x12, and a bunch of pedals. Dont remember what guitar. But here's the noise I made that day if you have time to waste:

I found that if you can get the volume knob past 3.5 you are in the ballpark for getting really good, usable tone with an OD pedal. At my monthly residency I basically crank it, stopping just short of 8, otherwise it gets kinda messy. I'll check your clip out in a few!
