Sounds dang good to me Chippy!

Trying to justify why I shouldn't get one.

EVH Stealth on Blue using the Suhr Reactive Load

Although a VH tune, really good Accept tone on that one. Let's hear Balls to the Wall .

sure would like to see the demo of it sounding identical to a real cab...

I would like to see the ultimate chippy showdown. Stick that mic on your 57 (which always sounds great) and make the Suhr sound close to it with impulses. Then we can have a real discussion.... I say this simply because yes impulses sound good/great but if the ear still prefers a real cab, then to me, that indicates that the real cab is still better. Just a fun challenge that I know you will be up to. Of course in a mix none of this matters because without a point of reference to compare, almost anything can be made to sound good. I just know i was able to tell when you were using a 57 and when you used a load or two notes etc..

Actually, the REAL way to do what you describe, for an acid test- is to set up a tone, with a great amp real greenback loaded 4-12", mic'd up, and record it- then, make an IR of the same mic/cab setup without changing anything, and record the same amp through the load and the IR you just made. Then compare clips.

I did this 3 or 4 years ago. I was pretty blown away by how close the IR was to the real cab, with all the other things remaining constant. I was shocked actually and in that moment i knew IR's were kinda the shit, the key, for recording great tones silently and quickly. And this was actually before I had the Suhr load, which really pulls it all into focus because it mimics the cab impedance curve so perfectly.

Great point Pete. The only way to really A/B the difference, is to trick yourself or test yourself. Your own setup against an IR of that exact setup. I tried this but was unable to get the two notes capture software to work. I got a hollow sound almost like the mic was outside the room the cab was in. I don't find their setup picture that explanatory at all. I don't understand how the hell it is setup. If you can chyme in on how to set this up in simple man's terms, I'll giv'er a go and report back with soundclips. Then we'll do some blind testing..

If you look at the diagram below, what I am not understanding is the capture out side.. I captured it in and then I thought you save it and apply it as your IR. Is there a step I don't understand? Why am I then piping it back out to a power amp and back into the same cab? The fellas at twonotes haven't been very thorough here.. I was very surprised they didn't have a tutorial on this.

i prefer this clip over the others

this one has a more natural top end and openess to the sound

the others are a little muted and congested to me in comparison to this one

Basically, what you are doing (once you set up a good mic'd cab tone with your guitar amp plugged into your cab) is sending a tone (usually a sweep from 20Hz-20K) out of your computer, into a flat uncolored power amp, through your cab. The speakers do their thing, the mics pick up the tone and do THEIR thing, and the whole shebang is captured in the Two Notes software and converted into a little file, that basically is a digital representation of what that speaker in that cab sounds like with those mics or mic through those pres. If you do it right, it should sound almost identical to the real cab and mic setup.
I know it can be confusing and sometimes difficult to get it to work right- I had problems too.... once I figured it out and made my own IR's using both the Fractal IR capture thing that is in an Axe FXii, and also using the Two Notes software, I was sold.. But it was always a pain to set up and make IR's. When I tried the Ownhammer stuff, I was so knocked out, I was like ok this guy is GREAT at this and has gone and done all the hard work already- at that point I got lazy and have barely made any more IR's, ha! I did make one of a Celestion A type speaker because I liked it so much and there are no IR's available of it, so I made my own. But greenbacks, etc- there's better ones already out there than I'll ever hope to make, IMHO.

Well hello Peter and how have you been?

We haven't spoke since last Fourth of July when I made those accusations that you simply just demo fear because your an endorser.. Remember? I was the one who called you a gear endorser whore.

Soon it will be the dawn of the new fourth of July .

Perhaps another Internet war?

I think these all sounded very good. I'd be totally satisfied if I had an amp that I wanted to record. If I didn't have a Kemper, I'd probably run out and buy this or the Two Notes.

Why would it matter even if he were a gear endorser whore? Wouldn't you want to be? Lynch is, why shouldn't we all aspire to be that if people send us gear. It's good times and you get to try a ton of shit.

Thanks for the info on the IR's Pete! I think instead of wasting time trying to capture my own sounds, I will just use the ownhammer or Redwirez stuff I already purchased if I can't get around to mic'ing my cabs. I see these being used more for my lead tones for just that reason. Too many takes to have everything blaring for an hour at a time in the house.

Nah, sounds boring. Drama.... People calling other people names on the internet is so 2014.  I really think people are tired of that petty inflammatory B.S. You wanna call me names like "whore", please come do it to my face! Then we can proceed like men

I will say, of course I endorse gear, I'm a professional. All pro guitarists endorse gear. I'd be stupid not to. :) But when I like a piece of gear, instead of just having my name on some list of players that use it, or appearing in some ad... which is pretty useless IMHO... Instead of that I usually make a video of it, that transparently shows how it sounds, what I like about it and why/how I use it. The proof is in the sound, I figure. You either like the way something works and sounds or you don't.

Sometimes, I'm astonished at the asshats on this forum. I mean, when you can't respect a pro who goes out of his way to demo gear for everyone, you've got to just punch yourself in the balls IMO.

You're the man Pete.

Yeah, Pete makes a lot of sense.

It's good seeing him here and it'd be great to hear from him more even.

I got a response.. all I wanted.

No, no need to call more names. I'm content.
I get a true enjoyment out of reading defensive responses.

Please don't beat me up kind sir. Keep rockin in the free world!

Btw... What's so bad about being called a whore anyway?

There's a lot worse
