NGD Gone Bad - Unwanted Chambering

I ordered a used '68 LPC Reissue off reverb because the weight was really nice - just below 8lbs. I confirmed with the seller (a major national dealer) that it was not chambered. It arrives. It's chambered.

I tried it out a bit and it's nice clean to medium gain but craps out high gain. That's pretty much the general consensus on these isn't it? Back it goes

My Ibanez is cut, routed, hacked.. Fenders are hacked to shit and covered with a Pickguard but somehow are still legendary..

Chances are the difference in sound are negligible to the listener..

I have a 68 LPC Reissue. It is a solid body guitar with no chambering or weight relief. It sounds incredible under high gain. Actually it might be one of the best sounding LP’s for high gain I’ve played.

I’d return it and tell whoever sold it to you that it might not actually be a 68 LPC Reissue.

My main Anderson is a hollow cobra. It sounds incredible for anything. Sent my previous long time favorite 76 LPC triple pickup down the road. I also have a solid Cobra too, the hollow is still my favorite.

Feel & sound are highly subjective so no real point in arguing on what Rackman is sharing on that IMHO.
I’m not a Custom Shop expert but as @TheGreatGreen said I don’t recall 68 Reissue LP model ever being chambered, sounds like it’s another model; what is the serial number?

In my experience lighter weight guitars to tend to have more lively, acoustic qualities on clean to edge of breakup settings - and lack a bit of firmness and punch as gain increases. My 2 absolute best sounding guitars for higher gain settings are a pair of slap together partscasters with Northern Hard Ash bodies. Each one weighs a ton. The lightest guitar in my stable is a Roasted Swamp Ash partscaster. Really nice guitar - very light - very resonant. I can sit in the living room and play it with no amp and it is 'almost' like having one of those thin bodied Ovation acoustics. But it just doesn't deliver at higher gain settings like the two Northern Ash guitars.

I’ve had 2 chambered Gibson LP’s

Both of them were ‘08 Standards.

They both were unable to handle high volumes, and they would begin to howl land feedback.

I realized that I couldn’t deal with this and sold both of them off.

I have two 68 ri's, both 2007. Both are chambered. I thought all 68 ri's were chambered.

I like them chambered. They have a nice chimey thump to them.
But then again im no where near the gain levels yall use

@GOHOINC , I think it would be the contrary = chambered 68 RI Custom would be a special series from those years?
Again, no expert on those, but that's my recollection.

I was going to say the same thing. As a general rule, 8lbs is like an LP starting point for me.

I don't care about weight-relief as much as I used to but seeing weight-relief in areas that typically don't have that done is not a good sign. That definitely could be affecting the sound at high gain.

It's a 68 LPCRI just special ordered with chambering.

Bummer.

I’ve definitely found chambered guitars to have a different type of attack for high gain playing. I’m sure it works for plenty of folks, but give me a solid slab of mahogany any day.
