So I picked up a Mooer micro preamp the other day... its the wanna be Diezel amp one (001). I was curious what $99 bucks would sound like for direct recording and I have to say, its not bad for what it is.

No amp, no load boxes, no IR's... just my junk-a-lunka EG1 custom Traveler guitar plugged directly into the Mooer 001 then plugged into my Roland quad capture sound card and recorded with Reaper. Two guitar tracks panned L & R and a drum loop from Addictive Drums 2.

After messing with and doing extensive test recordings with a crap ton of IR's and a Suhr reactive load for the last year or so this thing works pretty good for metal tones. Also I did hook it up to my Pink Taco's FX return to see how it sounded as a preamp, not bad at all... Keeping this thing for quick and easy recordings.

Nice work man. I grabbed 009 a couple months back, it's amazing what kind of tones you can get for less than $100 anymore. Tone sounds good!

Thanks man... and yeah this things makes me question all my other purchases in the last few years all in the name of fuck around home recordings lol.

They didn't have the 009 in stock at my local shop... that's the Engl Blackmore right? I may give that one a try later, that and the MKIII when ever it comes in stock.

Yeah, called a BlackKnight or something like that. I had some serious Engl tone GAS, and between that pedal and one of the Mercuriall sims it's cured.

I've heard a few good demos of yours, think that'll be my next one.

No IRs, no post eq?!!?!! Wow!! Sounds great!

Yup just plugged in straight with it's built in cab sim turned on. I want to test it's clean channel with a BE-OD and see how that sounds.

I love mine. A keeper. Used it direct into my TV 2.1 audio this morning for fun, was pleasantly impressed. Will try it in car next. ;)

Sounds good. Well done.

It supposed to be based on the Hagen preamp. Not sure how close it measures up to the Hagen... I've only played one a few times... but great tone nonetheless.

Pretty damn close. This thing reminds of the kemper. Id say kemper quality. Seems like a profile not a model.

Through the diezel loops, its killer. not as good as the real thing but SO useful and I get to stick with my diezel tone.

Im thinking about grabbing the engl and the 5150 also.

Dude....that sounded killer! Mooer puts out some pretty good stuff.

Thanks guys, I hope to make time this weekend to really dial it in maybe with an eq in front and use a better guitar rather than my beater ;)

Bad Ass clip man, i was a little slow to listen to this one but man that sounds awesome, especially for the price!

Thanks man! Was just messing with it now gonna post a new clip soon.

So I got to mess around with the mooer pedal a bit more tonight. I tried disabling the built in cab sim and using IR's and it didn't sound bad but didn't sound amazing either. I'm sure with lots of tweaking it could sound much better than the built in cab sim but I might as well use my load box and IR's at that point so built in cab sim it is.

Next I tried using pedals in front of the mooer pedal. First I tried using it's clean channel with my BE-OD pedal.. it was ok but not amazing. I was expecting it to sound pretty good but it was meh. Moved on to the dirty channel and added an eq pedal and was really surprised it didn't affect the tones very much at all. Tried using my red dirt pedal OD pedal, then my grind pedal and meh... tried my keeley compressor and thought it sounded just a tad bit better and smoother sounding overall... and here is how that sounded...

My 1am 100% silent recording -> https://soundcloud.com/faka-894685110/mooer-micro-preamp-001-test-2-hit-the-lights-ish

Also added a bass track using the pedal + compressor it came out ok. It's all mixed with headphones so it might sound like ass thru speakers   So far it's the best $99 spent ever for painless direct recording. Just plug that sucker into your interface and go!

Odd, i found od pedals and eq's to work well in front of it as long as you dont boost it much. Unity gain or a hair above is cool.
