I've heard things about newer versus older NS2's and how they're wired/built. The older, obviously being the better one. Have no idea when mine was from. It def choked the shit out of my tone. I was ready to deal with the noise just to have my guitar sound the way it should.

For many years I used a half rack space Hush unit in the loop. Now I just use a Behringer NR300 between the preamp and poweramp.

There was a lot of love for the MXR smart gate here back in the day..

I have a MXR Smart Gate (M135). Nice pedal, though I don't use it for a high gain amp. My Rockman rig is rack mounted and stereo, so I'm considering a Smart Gate Pro (M235) for that.
