Not digging the EVH Frankenstein pickup

Now that I think about it, I tried a Duncan CC in my Wolfgang years ago and didn't like it. So, I'm thinking I'm just not fond of the A2 sound.

I've got one in my Franky replica and a George Lynch Skull and bones replica. I like em. Definitely don't experience the shrill highs like you mentioned. Best of luck with it though. Nothing worse than a pickup you don't gel with.

The peavey Wolfgang uses a ceramic magnet if I'm not mistaken and yes, it brings the chunk. I have an EVH Wolfgang humbucker in my swamps ash franky. Sounds great. Had the Frankenstein in a northern ash franky and I thought it killed. I'm putting one in my Charvel rebuild which is sitting on my bench...

What about a Gibson 498t? I've read some positive reviews about it.

Speaking as someone who has A true Fender Frankenstein Replica and has put the EVH Frankenstein pickup on another guitar .......they are different.
--- Im sure ed let more of the special sauce out for the replicas cus he actully plays them. Its deff meaner - But i have no doubt that they are different.

sorry couldn't resist. do you have any other guitars to compare it to...perhaps another issue going on besides the pickup/guitar.

People here tend to laugh at this, but it is true.

Psyched to hear so many of you like the Frankenstein pickup...I don't use anything else...
I hope the OP finds something that works for him. Not every pickup is for everyone...

A sweet rig ain't gonna help you if you can't play. That's for sure.

Style and chops are in the hands. Tone is in the way those hands interact with the gear. And what that gear is makes a huge difference in how your tone is.

Its all a part of the equation...I'm gonna dial in a tone through any rig that will sound close to how I dial in my Marshall. But me playing through a Fender twin and a pedal isn't gonna sound the same as my Marshall and a boost. It'll be the same boring riffs that I do..  but they're gonna sound different.

Couldn't have said it better myself...

I've been thinking. I know, smell the smoke? Since my guitar is hard ash, maple neck, floyd rose, without a tone pot, I wonder if a 250-300k volume pot would help?

My old MJ wound JB is the tits in my super strat. I would put it up against any boutique pickup on the market.

I have a JB in my cheap ass SX strat that I upgraded. I like how it sounds and feels. I'm afraid it would be too much in my hard ash Franky.

Got one in a 92 Diablo. Killer.

I swapped out my Frankenstein pick up also , I went with a Seymour Duncan Screamin Demon 12BJ hand wound by MJ.

I put the Frankenstein in my Anderson drop-top and it sounds great in there.

I messed with the pickup height in my MIJ SC1, moved the Frankie closer to the strings. Sounded good before, but now its very close to the same tone as my MJ JB in my 92 Hamer....just perfect to me! As good as any pickup I've had..MCP, BK etc.....

How close do you have it? And how far up or down do you have the pole pieces?

It's a half centimeter or just a bit less...pretty close. Not sure about the pole pieces as I'm at work, but I've never tried that before. It looks stock to me but when I'm home tomorrow I will look at them. Usually when I have a pickup that close it muds up a bit but this sounds even better. Like that really nice JB I have.
