interesting excerpts from from a Rolling Stone interview:

RollingStone.com: The VAN HALEN tour was such a success. Were you pleasantly surprised?

Eddie Van Halen: You never know. But I do know this. Janie [Eddie's fiancée/publicist] and I are getting married on the 27th of June, and then we'll go on a honeymoon. Then Dave [Lee Roth], Wolfie [Van Halen], Alex [Van Halen] and I are going into the studio and record some new music and go on tour about a year from now.

RollingStone.com: Did the VAN HALEN tour help fire up some new musical ideas?

Eddie Van Halen: No, I am always writing, you know. But we're a true band now. It wasn't just a reunion one-off thing. I've already gone to Dave's house four or five times over the last month. I've got so much music. It's just trying to figure out what Dave's into because we haven't written together in a long time. But it's great. It feels like we've always felt in the beginning. But I'm sober, so it's different. He's sober, so it's different. It's a wonderful feeling.

RollingStone.com: Have you heard CHICKENFOOT?

Eddie Van Halen: No, I haven't.

RollingStone.com: No particular interest?

Eddie Van Halen: Well, I don't listen to anything really, for one.

RollingStone.com: You make your own music?

Eddie Van Halen: Yeah, I'm too busy doing my own thing. I wish them well. The funny thing is that everyone who quits the band always claims they got fired by me. Hey, I'm not the bad guy here. When [Sammy] Hagar left the band, Mike [Michael Anthony] went with him. Then when we get back together with Dave, and all of a sudden, he wants back in. It's like, "No, dude, you quit the band." So my son became the bass player. But we didn't give Mike the boot to have my son play. He was around. We didn't have a bass player. "Hey Wolfie, you want to play?"

Although I agree that EVH is crazy, I didn't get that impression from these quotes. Just the same old EVH talking points. That said, the thing he said about Mike going off with Sammy and then wanting back in when the cash was about to roll back in sounds plausable...

Maybe...

Since EVH wasn't doing anything, and Mikie wanted to jam..

Mikie: sammy wanna jam?!
Sammy: hell ya.. come on!

Mikie: Evh, you gonna rock again.. i'm in!
EVH: no man.. you took off to jam with someone else.. you out!

Who knows! But the all or nothing Jam thing could be the thing and well we all know of these type of stories..

just a thought.

I think, and this is just my worthless opinion, what Ed perceived as "being taken advantage of" early in his career
made him overly sensitive, which parlayed into him being a complete control freak today.

I wonder what would happen if he sat down and said "You know what, some of this is my fault.
I did this to Sammy and that to Dave and this to Mike. It goes both ways, but I will own
up to my share." I'd have a lot more respect for him rather than him saying "Everyone quit, don't blame
me cuz I'm the good guy."

Playing-wise, I really hope he gets it together. There was a time when his playing was stellar when he was lit,
but now he plays MUCH better off the bottle.

It sounds like he's answering questions that weren't even being asked.

He lives in his own world. He's a walking nutbag.

Just get married already, get your ass in the studio and put out some new material

....until then, I don't give a crap who left, who got fired, or who's playing bass! Just put out some NEW material!! :gethim:

It's the same shit he's said about band politics each and every time. Only the names change.

Eddie isn't the only one in the history of VH to have an ego. DLR and Hagar are huge head-cases. The difference is that EVH is the boss. It's his band. So he's the one who stays when there's a fight. Makes sense to me. I just wish he'd play the fucking guitar more.

I agree with you. He is full of shit and I do think he is a control freak. I think the Michael Anthony Hot Sauce thing is what started it off. He is still my favorite guitarist, but is very inconsistant in his interviews.

This... From everything that Ive ever heard, Michael Anthony is an awesome dude, no egos, nothing. On top of that, The guy managed his money REALLY well, to the point that Ive heard that out of all the VH guys, Mike's the best off because he was smart and invested very wisely. I dont think that it was a money thing, I think that he just wanted to play..

I love Eddie, hes the one that made me want to learn to play hands down but I think that in the end, hes an ass..

just my .02
