Now this is one big joke. Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists

Why is #1 a joke? Hendrix is awesome. Rolling Stone isn't listing the 100 most technically proficient guitar players.

+ 1,000,000

I think a lot of people around here get too caught up in who can play the fastest most difficult stuff and that's what makes a guitarist great. Sometimes simple riffs are more influential than playing a million notes a minute.

Look at the rest of the list, it's a complete joke. Kirk Hammet #11, and where's David Gilmour.

LOL @ KURT COBAIN ABOVE JEFF BECK AHAHAHAHAHAHA REALLY, yet again I say, we wonder why the music industry and popular music in general is going to shit in this country. For the love of god, what fucking planet are these people from? AND JACK WHITE REALLY Woowwwwwwww. Many of the top 10 deserve to be there, but I wouldn't put Ry Cooder nor Chuck Berry in that list, Hendrix, Paige, Clapton, King, Johnson, all very arguable. This is an incredible subjective thing, simply because it really depends what they are calling them the best for... but nothing and I mean NOTHING should include Jack White. PERIOD.

I stopped reading The Rolling Stone a looooongggg time ago. As soon as I realized it was written but a bunch of terminally "hip" idiots trying desperately to ride the latest fashion or pop fade.

Rolling Stone = 0 knowledge about music!

I didn't say I agreed personally with the list, my points were merely that a) Hendrix is/was/will always be awesome and b) It isn't about technique. I agree that Gilmour should be higher up on the list and Hammett isn't the 11th best by any stretch or under any criteria but I'm not about to get worked up about it.

Yeah, I remember seeing this years ago and laughing at how bad it was...the ex GF had got me a Rolling Stone subscription for my birthday that year...needless to say I didn't renew after that list, not to mention the mag was shite in general

I mean they don't even have Satch or Vai listed...Hammett but not Hetfield? Van Halen at 70? David Gilmour at 82? Randy Rhoads at 85? Iommi at 86? Angus Young at 96? Gimme a break, it's more amusing than irritating

Yeah, but, some on the list aren't even thought of as guitarists. Kurt Cobain may have been a lot of things but guitarist...NO! If the Rolling Stone is going to have a list with the word "guitarists" in the title then the members on that list should be guitarists.

I'm not even going to dignify that FAIL by reading it.

This just in... Rolling Stone always has been and always will be a complete fucking JOKE. How in the blue fuck they ever became the default voice for what is and isn't "The Greatest" in the world of music will remain a mystery as timeless as the fucking pyramids of Egypt.

In terms of importance and impact alone, there's no fucking way Jimi & Ed aren't 1 & 2 on any objective "Greatest Rock Guitarist" list.

The guy plays guitar on stage and on record in a hugely influential and popular band for years and he's not a guitarist? Ok.... I've truly heard it all. The funny thing is, I understand what you're trying to say here but I just think it's so wide of the mark. He isn't known for his technical prowess but he is most definitely known for standing up there playing guitar and singing. When I picture him in my mind I see him holding a guitar, ergo, he's a guitarist.

16 Johnny Ramone of the Ramones
70 Eddie Van Halen

More proof that Rolling Stone is staffed by musical retards.

What really cinched it for me though, was years ago they rated Rush as one of the all-time worst bands claiming that Neil Peart was probably the worst Rock drummer ever.

Kirk Hammet even MADE the list?......

At ELEVEN??.......

Above Jeff BECK????

Edit:

LOLOLLL!!!

Tom Morello at 26 .... and no Nuno anywhere!?!!??!

This is better

OK, then by your logic Kurt Cobain could have held a pie pan on stage and banged on it thereby making him one of the top 100 drummers of all time...yeah, right.  I get that he may have been "hugely influential," but just because you put a guitar around your neck and bang out some chords doesn't make you a guitarist let alone in the top 100.
