Saw the same tour in 85. My 1st concert........BLEW ME AWAY!! ;)

Best concerts:

Tool, I follow them around a lot - but the "Cirque de Toole" aka "Lateralus" tour was off the hook... MINDBLOWING.

Rolling Stones, saw them several times - the early 80's Tattoo You tour had some very impressive moments. Keef was barely hangin' on back then, but damn he could still play. Interestingly enough, he's the most unique guitarist to watch - he's kinda there, always filling in the background of the rhythm, but man if he doesn't look like he's always playing a COMPLETELY different song in both timing, body language, and even down/upstrokes. Crazy shit, quite the enigma. I also remember him coming out with only 3 or 4 strings on his tele's... Each guitar, perfectly tuned to 1 chord, just so he could strum the fucker and not screw up. That was earlier than Tattoo You, but ya, he had some trying times on stage poor sod.

Zappa Plays Zappa, they come around annually to Vancouver. Probably, as for recent music extravaganzas, the best musicianship I've consistently witnessed. You wanna hear "perfect sound" live? Check Dweezil and his band doing his Dad's music...unfknbelievable.

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Some absolutely terrific outdoor venues when Frusciante rejoined the team. Just wicked.

Velvet Revolver, small venue - was their first tour, Slash and Duff were just slammin' and Scott had TONS of explosive energy. LOVED Slash's solo mid concert...not really anything speedy and technical - just came out, butt in mouth, lights dimmed, and he just jammed solo on this sweet '57 goldtop Lester for about 15 or 20 minutes. Was awesome - almost like he was just making up a lot of riffs as he went along and then incorporated them later into the grande scheme of things. Loved it.

Hell.....SO MANY!!! For what it's worth, I even saw Deep Purple and Yes and - GULP - Styx!!!! - back in the day (I was less than 10 years old, but I saw my share of concerts back then.... Speaking of which, Genesis with Peter Gabriel was amazing - good weed too, especially for a youngen

#1 Pink Floyd - Pulse tour in the New Orleans Super Dome. Surround sound, airplanes flying around, scary ass huge pigs, biggest stage I've ever seen with a light and effects show that has not been beat to this day, Gilmour playing, etc.

#2 Fates Warning opening for Dream Theater opening for Queensryche at the Verizon Theater in Houston.

#3 Rush - R30 tour at the outdoor Woodlands Pavilion in Houston. 3 hours of Rush live, awesome show.

My favorite was seeing Ozzy w Randy in 82 at the Toledo Sports Arena. Had been playing guitar a year or so....yeah that left a mark! Gen admission too, right up front, awesome!!

#2 would be Maiden Somewhere in Time at the Richfield Coliseum. To this day the absolute best sounding show I've seen. Just killer!!

I was at that Somewhere in Time show. I gave my future wife tickets to that concert for her birthday. She still reminds me of that (as she really didn't like my music)...My son still wears the concert T-shirt. Great show. Can't remember who opened; fastway?

Yeah....that's what I meant to say. I remember being impressed by Paul Chapman's solo (I think it was Paul Chapman). I have to admit I don't remember Pete falling off the stage. I don't know if you remember, but I recall seeing Fastway about six times in the span of a year and a half. Seemed like they were always in Cleveland.

absolutely horrible, usually at a concert a guitarist will throw a few picks, I think I brought home a couple dozen that night.
They got booed something fierce....Vinnie got hit in the head with a large beer cup in the middle of his gtr solo.....singer stood on his gtr cable while Vinnie took off to the edge of the stage...pulled the cable out of the gtr....it was pretty funny really.

Isn't one of the guys from Cleveland? Drummer maybe?

It was about halfway thru and Pete was at the front edge of the stage, then he was gone. Bass was laying on the stage feeding back abit....looked like a good fall.

Poison.....a girl walked by grabbed my ass and came back a few minutes later in the row behind me and I grabbed her crotch. Lets just say towards the end she had my pants unzipped and if I was the guy infront of me I wouldnt have put on the concert shirt he left on the back of his seat. :D I went with 4 younger college kids I worked with and they were going to show me a good time. HaHa they couldnt believe it

Oh the show..... great back ground music

Best shows Dire Straights, Mark Knoffler several times and again going to see him in May at Washington DC Warren theatre. Pink Floyd, Cinderella

You may be thinking of Jerry Shirley (ex Humble Pie / Fastway). He was from England, but also spent a few years in Cleveland as a disc jockey. By the way, the guitarist I was thinking about was Paul Raymond, not Paul Chapman.

Van Halen Opening up for Black Sabbath with OZZY up front At Madison Square Garden!

Roid RAGE

Boy, thats a tough one to narrow down for me, but I'll have to say for excellence in musicianship AND visual:
Rush-any tour( loved 30th anniv. )
Triumph- thunder seven tour
Monsters of rock

I'd also have to say if forced to pick one, if just for the historical significance alone -seeing Ozzy with Randy in 82. Religious experience. Walked in a total EVH head, "No way is this guy better than Eddie!" attitude, walked out with my face peeled off, a changed little teenage budding guitarist. Equally as good, and had a completely different thing going on.

But if I didn't have to pick one, there's been some other amazing ones - in no particular order:

SRV
Metallica w/Cliff
Jeff Beck (another religious experience)
Iron Maiden opening for Judas Priest
Dokken opening for Dio (Vivian was good, but Lynch was on FIYAH...)
Gary Moore opening for Def Leppard (Krokus was on the bill too, and their guitarists, as well as Clark and Collen watched him from the side of the stage, visibly in awe)
Alice in Chains w/Layne 2x
VH w/Dave (1984 and 2007)

And the list could go on...best recent show, I'd have to say Stone Temple Pilots at the Hollywood Bowl a couple of years ago...

a few for different reasons

bryan adams/srv/the police just because

yngwie/rising force tour because he was out to destroy the universe

vital information/gambale-steve smith lock in to freak alien shred grooves

racer x/double your yngwie shred

guns and roses/aerosmith rock and roll history-each tried to outdo the other and the audience won

dimeola/delucia/mcglaughlin/w steve morse---ppppffffffffffffff

dyno four--vinnie/mike landau/abe laborial/greg mathieson----instruments get in the way of their musical channeling of joy

but probably for all time gtr moment--eric johnson at coach house/ah via musicom tour.
