Hmm... I'm going to go with the Aldrich's for the clean tone, like both for the distorted sound.

Love the top on that guitar.

I liked the Blackouts better in that vid....which suprised me. The Aldrich's sounded a bit muffled to me for some reason...?

I wanted to keep all settings on the amp the same for both pickup sets. It would be easy enough to dial in a little more presence to get that top end with the Aldrich's :)

I loved the video comparison. Really cool! I like both for different reasons but would go passive all day long. This isn't directed towards your clip but I feel like my actives (EMG 81) sound artificial in comparison. Glad you found a set of passives that scratch where you itch tone wise.

It's very interesting to see all the different opinions. Thanks for the thoughts guys. I'm enjoying this discussion :)

This was my thought while listening. I'm sure your setup was set for the actives since that is all you have played for years. I'm sure the Aldrich pickups will sound similar with some knob changes. You always sound like you no matter what.

Hey Mark, I would really love to see a comparison video of the SPC control wide open, then completely off. All of your vids have a similar grind to them that I absolutely love. I'm just curious to hear how much the SPC is contributing to your sound.

I'm a fan of Aldrich pups...and have never liked any actives I've tried. Maybe I need to give the blackouts a shot...

Way more string seperation on the Aldrich pups, the lower mids can be corrected with one eq tweak.

Aldrich for me.

do you use the aldrichs in series or parallel for clean?
split?

i prefer the suhr

Aldrich all the way. I've always loved how they sound clean too. I think they split better than any other PUP I've tried too.

No split, just the basic bridge pickup config. I keep this guitar wired so the middle switch position is OFF. Not a 5-way just a Tele style.

I've had both the Aldrich and the EMTY's in my charvel and I love the Blackouts. They can be full and soft and searing an great for clean stuff. I really, really like them.

I had an Aldrich in the bridge of the guitar a while back and really didn't dig it. To my ears, it was like dialing in the tone for Still of the Night an not being able to get away from it. It sounded very harsh to my ears.

I guess we just have different ears.

Shoulda went Blk/Blk...

I have passives in everything I've ever owned. Dig them and wouldn't change anything, but for your style and approach you should go with actives. They really suit you and sound ripping.

Gold covers to match his hardware, I have Nickel covers over my Aldrich's, nice balance.

Pure gold right there... totally awesome looking.

I think the Blackout's sounded more processed. I liked the aldrich's better.

Wow, there sure are a lot of strong feelings for both sides on all forums. Not what I would of thought at all. To me they both sound great.

Like I said I can easily dial the amp to be more aggressive for the Aldrich's. When I did this test the amp was setup for the Blackouts, which really isn't fair for the Aldrich's but I had no idea what the Aldrich's would sound like before I actually installed them :)

It sure shows that the saying "Different strokes for different folks." holds true in this case :)
