Shout out to @itsgoodnow for a great deal on a quad of Vintage 30's. They came from one of his Mesa cabs.

It's been forever since I've had a cab loaded it with V30's. I don't really remember why I moved away from them. Probably just wanting something different from the norm. Loaded them in my Egnater Armageddon 412 this morning and gave them a test run. Sounds great and its nice to have some back in the house again.

Shit I was hoping you got a quad of 15’s….🥷
That'll be coming at some point, hopefully sooner than later. I don't have room for a 415 right now; not until I get my garage set up as my gear space. I did get my new workshop build the other week and started moving all my tools from the garage to it. So that's at least step one.

Nice! What did you have in there before?
I had a mix of g12k100's and WGS Retro 30's. That was a pretty decent sounding mix, but the Retro 30's lost definition when it got to band volume. And the k100's really need some volume to wake them up. That was also 16 ohms and I'm getting all my cabs to 8 ohms.

Unless these are the chosen one(s) Mesa V30s born on the summer equinox of 2003, then I’m afraid these won’t buy you any street cred from the YT V30 police

If I can find a decent deal on some 15’s I’ll build either a 2x15, or a 2x15 and 2x12, or a 4x15…

What if I soaked them in water? Would that buy any cred?

Moving my stuff into the garage will about double my space and have room for several more cabs. I want to do a 212/215, 415, and 612. Go big or get the fuck out, right.

Keep an eye on Reverb for Weber Blue Dog 15's. It's basically like a 15 inch Celestion Blue. It has a similar midrange grind with a thicker low end and great upper end chime. Sounds great on its own and blends really well with Greenback or CL80 type 12 ince speakers. I grabbed one about a month ago for about $75.

That’s a great deal! I have only ever used emi legend 15” and they are great. Pair excellent with v30’s as well…..

My personal experience is limited to the Blue Dog 15. I really want to try out the Celestion Fullback. Everything I've heard sounds great, like a modern 15" greenback.

Congrats man and killer.....

Honestly feel the same, I never hated them but never not liked them..... just 50/50 on V30s.....

But recently yeah V30s just got what Im looking for.

v30s vary alot over the different iterations - and even speaker to speaker in the same batch

For reals...... speakers to speaker of the same year too.....

Its not a bad thing but it really just goes to show that as far as manufacturering and quality has improved...... there are still tolerances and the sum of the components result in a product that isn't so cookie cutter.

Never played a bad one per se but in general you can hear when some just have extra "mojo" than others but usually after a break in with most it pans out more than not IME.

The Mesa ones are a bit different I hear if they are the BlackShadows and also some manufacturers like Badcat also have BadCat speakers that are just relabled undoped V30s and they also have cabs with regular V30s.

The Mesa ones have their own vibe, but so do the original marshall branded ones (in the jubilee cabinets) and the early UK (non mesa) from the early 90s

They all have slightly different sounds, but the one thing they have in common is that they are slightly less midrangey than the newer chinese ones

Which, btw, ive heard newer chinese ones that sound great, they just have a little more JB style "honk" to them, and the uk and older versions are a bit more balanced.

I think thats why the newer ones are loved by live players and the older ones are loved by recording people
