New wedge day.

I've been wanting to find a 2x12 wedge to use live to cut down on the beaming effect on the audience and sound man of a 4x12 cabinet and also help control stage volume. I found one at Avatar and had them load it with a pair of H75 Creambacks. We'll I received it yesterday after only about a 2 week wait time. I thought that was pretty impressive. It arrived packed for a war zone. Honestly, the box and packing material alone weighed about 20 lbs.

The tone right out of the box was better than I expected. I was a little worried but it sounds big with well focused bottom end. I've read some good reviews about the Creambacks and they really deliver. The only issue is you need to trim the highs back a little because you're directly in the line of fire. I was reading about the Weber beam blockers and just taped a round piece of cardboard directly in from of the center of the cone and it made a huge difference. I was able to dial my amp back into where I usually have it. The other thing that's cool is you're guitar sings really easy with natural feedback facing the cabinet. I guess I'll go ahead and give the Beam Blockers a try.

I've got a week before my next gig so back to breaking in the speakers.

Very cool. Enjoy. If love to read a review after your gig

Did you ever buy an Atomic CLR? I remember you looking for one. I'm just curious is all.

Yea. I run that when I go with the Kemper. That's what gave me the idea to go this route with a regular amp.

Nice... I've looked at those a couple of times and very nearly pulled the trigger. The only thing that stopped me was a concern over how I'd squeeze that cabinet and a monitor wedge in front of me on some of the small bar stages my band plays.

I'll be curious to see how that cabinet works for you in a real-world environment.

Unless we're using the house system we go with IEM's so that's not really an issue. You could always run it behind you if needed.

I haven't made the leap to in-ears yet - would like to, though. Running it behind would probably be OK; maybe even better than a 4x12 considering that it is more directional.

Post some info on how well it works for you after a few gigs. Inquiring minds want to know

iEM are great for vocals but guitar tones pretty much suck.

Which is why I haven't switched. We have good quality powered floor monitors that work well, so there hasn't been any strong reason to change thus far. I do like the idea of a more compact system and less gear to lug, though...

A couple years ago I bought a Tonewedge 1x12 wedge for the same reason. I loaded mine with a Scumback M75. It sounds great and mic'ed up works great. I would not A/B a wedge with your favorite 4x12 because the wedge just doesn't compare. The tone can be the same but the thump and feel is different. I use it with the Kemper and a Magnum 44 to get some sustain (I use IEM all the time), or if I use a 4x12, I line out to the Mag 44 and power the wedge turned sideways to fill out the sound.

Well I gigged with the wedge for the first time last weekend and everything went as planned. I could hear great and no problems with stage volume. To anyone who's considering one of these, don't hesitate. I wish I'd grabbed one long ago.

Just saw Motley Crüe last night and Mick is still using two of these in front of him. He also had some 4 x 12s behind him and at least one was working and mic'd up because the mic fell off during his solo. Big difference in sound until the roadie fixed it.

The Creambacks are sounding better and better too. There's nothing worse then brand new speakers with no give.
