On with the Show
Track 10 from Too Fast For Love record; Oct 1981.
This record is so raw. At times, out of tune/pitch and time. but damn what a cool song (and album). I was 10 when it came out btw...probably didn't hear it til about '83 or so. Anyway... Who can help put some historical perspective on this.

I'm curious on this record, but more specifically this song. if anyone knows the history... i guess Crue were in their very early years... was this song a rough-cut that didn't get re-recorded. Did they record it in a basement somewhere, all jamming at the same time? I love the rough and raw feel... it's got a live, in the room vibe...and maybe that is how they recorded. maybe that's the vibe they were intentionally going for; Vince is a little flat at times, esp early in the song, the way the drums come in it over powers the vocals (like you'd hear in a small club or something)... its' definitely not the clean and polished studio mix that we've come accustomed to.

There's two versions the versions of the TFFL album (technically there's about 5 counting remasters ect.) On With The Show that the OP posted is was from the 1982 Elektra version . The album was originally released in 1981 on the bands Leathur records. There was remixes and re-recording done for the Elektra version . You'll hear good difference here on the original Leathur versions

Ah yes, my memory has faded over the years. I remember being out riding my BMX bike when I was 15 and hearing Live Wire for the first time. My buddy played the cassette on his boom box.

I don't have any info to hep you with the history.

I actually got into Shout at the Devil first and worked backward. When Shout came out, there was all this mysticism, pentagrams, make up, devil worship bullshit but I could tell it was part of the show and to get attention - and it worked. So Too Fast was a bit of let down but I still love it all the same for the same reasons you guys do. Just a kick ass raw rock record.

on the OWTS recordings...didn't realize i had tagged the '82 Elektra version...it is less polished than the '81 version... i think i like the '82 record more. just has that in the room and everyone's jamming at one time feel/vibe.

maybe incorrectly labeling them, and certainly not trying to slander their sound....but some of Crues very early stuff had a hint of Punk to it, but harder and less whinny-bitch. if that makes sense...

That would not be slander at all. Their early days def had punk influences. Pretty sure they've acknowledged that and are proud of that.

When I was in high school, we loved that album. I go back and forth between "Shout at the Devil" and this one as my favorite. They are both gems in my opinion. "Too Fast for Love" is so awesome and raw and so many great songs on there. I really like "Toast of the Town" which unfortunately didn't make the album.

My fav Crue record. Had the LP in 82, played it and Diary every day. Piece of Your Action is my fav Crue song off any record
