I've concluded that my addiction to this forum(which kiks ass) has gotten the best of me and my credit cards :scared: You have all been open, knowledgeable, and upstanding good dudes and I appreciate all your feedback and input in the past couple years. Gonna get my ass off these sites and back in my room practicing and doing something productive that rewards me in the end(without the visa statements).. but before I do.. I am looking for my last and ONE killer amp that will suffice my tonal and playing needs for a bit. My band covers everything from ac/dc, journey to shinedown, sevendust and all in between. On my own time I love jamming to some Andy Timmons, John Petrucci, Doug Aldrich, etc. Looking for a high gain amp that is versatile enuf for my needs and has a transparent fx loop. I have pretty much narrowed my choices down to the following below.. Let me know your personal, unbiased thoughts and opinions. I'll be checking in from time to time and will probably be offloading some gear here in the near future. Cheerz and happy holidays to you all!! I've learned alot from you guyz

Which amp is it gonna be.......

-Friedman Marsha w/ simple clean
-Diezel VH4(talk me out of this ;) ..I'm gassing)
-New 'yet to be seen or heard' Suhr PT100
-Fortin
-Cameron CCV
-Rhodes Collossus
-Cornford MK50ii

My ears tend to like a mid voiced amp with punch and very little 'sizzle'.. hence, no herbert..had one and it was great for newer metal(single note picking, chugging) but was pretty much moosh when chording...which I do more of. Bare in mind I am a lead player 1st and rhythm 2nd so lead channel has to be creamy, articulate and smooth...idols include: Timmons, Aldrich, Hoekstra, Wylde, Petrucci, Gilbert, Hannon...just to name a few. thanx again guyz and can't wait to hear your thoughts. It's been a pleasure!!!!!!!!

If we're strictly talking versatility here, the VH4 is the clear winner. Though I know nothing of the Collossus and PT100. But it's hard to beat four 100% independent, midi switchable channels with two FX loops and 4 insert loops (VH4!).

But tone-wise, I really like the Marshall upper-mids (which the VH4 lacks). So in that case, I'd want a Fortin or Cameron.

Ya, the VH4 is the winner for versatility. Maybe an OD upfront to conjure more mids. If not, dare I say to look into the Hagen - it's got all the greasiness you could imagine AND 4 channels of kickass versatility. NOT trying to muddy the waters whatsoever. Just adding what I know. But if I HAD to pick ONLY from that list, it would be the VH4 hands down

You could easily leave this forum with VH4 in hand and never look back (er, maybe just a rarely poke yer head in to see what's up ;) )

Diezel VH4.

Just bought one, every channel is amazing, and channel 3 has THE tone I've been searching for for years. I'm amazed at how touch-sensitive the amp is. Very, very articulate. Just gotta wait for the flight case to come in so I can put the rig together.

Baron K88 or K2. I have a K88 and my amp GAS is long gone.

You sound like a drug addict!

Just one more fix, man...... ;)

Sorry had to chuckle with Rob's comment thought it was funny.

Not much help because I've never tried any of those amps, would love to try the VH4 and the PT-100.

I have a CCV on order so am hoping that will cure my GAS.

Good luck and check into rehab.

Based on the guys you mentioned and that you are a lead player you should go with a Marshall based amp. The others are great, but you'll likely be unhappy with them in the long run because It's not the tone you're hearing from your influences.

I learned a long time ago, after I had gone through my amp flipping stage, that most all my hero's use Marshall's and Stratocasters. It's what my ear likes to hear. Other gear is great as well, but when the rubber hits the road it's a Stratocaster and a Marshall.

From you're list I've tried the Marsha, Natas, VH4, & while I haven't played the CCV I did have a killer HG Jose for a while. From those I'd lean towards the Marsha or VH4 for what you're describing. The HG Jose has more sizzle than the Marsha & VH4. Most of the CCV clips I've heard did as well. The Natas is my favorite amp I've owned and more flexible than what most would think, but I think the overall voicing is going to be too modern for what you're describing. If I was wanting tones like that from the Fortin lineup I'd be looking at the Bones or Meathead or one of the modded JVM's from Modsquad.

lol that's basically what happened with me. Got the VH4 and after a while I just stopped checking the forums. I was bored at work, the other day, so I decided to drop by again after like 6 months of away time.

Loving all the feedback... keep it coming. Thanx guyz

It has been a while man, how ya been?

Of course, I spend too much time here when I'm not at arm's length from my gear... Great distraction this place - insanely so.

To the OP, Channel 2 on the VH4 with gain at noon and MV at noon will tear any Marshall pedigree a new assh@le. Just sayin'....

I have a Marsha with the full clean and duel footswitchable gain/master controls...essentially making it a three channel amp for gigging purposes. I've played just about everything out there (I have NOT played a CCV or anything by Fortin) and the Marsha stands head and shoulders above them all for the hot-rodded Marshall tones that I want to hear. The icing on the cake is the clean channel. I was hoping for a usable clean but actually got one of the best clean tones that I've heard out of any amp. Check one out if you can.

Honestly, when I heard your description of the tones you are after (creamy etc) and being a lead player first, the first amp that popped into my head was a Bogner XTC, one of its variants (101B/101A/classic etc) The VH4 would probably be my second choice though as well, as I haven't played those other amps listed..

Its the CCV but I might be seen as biased but that doesn't change the fact that for what you describe its the CCV...

Buy my over priced VH4! :D :scared:

Out of your list, i'd try the CCV.

The VH4 is a cool amp, but not anywhere near a one and only amp for me, i'd rather have a less compressed amp for that.

My one and only amp is the Cornford MK50 II, but if i had a Cameron with a clean i'd be a happy camper.
