ONE amp and done and out thread!!

I actually don't mind a 'little' bit of sizzle and compression in an amp... I just don't like the hi fi super saturated tone that I seem to find in the Herbert/Engl/5150's etc... They are good amps but just not my thing.

I definitely wouldn't consider a VH4 to have too much sizzle. That's one of the great things about it IMHO.

I may be the only one on this entire forum who could not give a shit about Jose diode clipping same old crap. I would stay away from those type amps and go for something much less compressed and nasally. If it were possible, I would contact Mike and have him do a build for you as he will listen to all of your concerns and build the most ass kicking amp you could imagine. Since that won't be possible for the forseeable future, I would have to say Rhodes or VH4. The Colossus is a really great amp and the VH4 is...well, a VH4 after all.

Yeah, I know the VH4 is the most open, organic, least saturated of the Diezels and that's why Im considering her.. Also, I could throw my koko boost (mid boost) into the ch2 or ch3 loop and get it a little raunchier and cutting possibly.. Just thinkin tho

And yes..the Rhodes looks and sounds killer and Kyle is a great and talented guy!

I gotta be the only guy on the planet that has played the VH4 twice and just don't get the love for that amp. It was good but nothing that floored me. I do however love the Herbert. That said I think the Cameron stuff might be it for you. Out of the amps I have actually played anyways. I have not played a Friedman of a Fortin so can't speak to those.

Rhodes will have two new amps at Namm this year and more throughout 2012. Very killer stuff!

My advice would be to throw down $300+ jump on a plane and come out to Cali for a few days where you can basically play or hunt down most of these amps. You have to cut through all the bias and find the one that fits "you". You own playing style, feel, and dynamics will tell you the right amp to go with. In the long run it might actually save you some money.

I may get beat up for merely suggesting this amongst all the great amps that have been mentioned but how about a Laney VH100R? I just recently got one and being that my band covers the same range of music you mentioned, it does a pretty darn good job. The additional footswitchable drive circuit on each channel is a huge plus that almost makes the amp function like a four channel amp. Add in built in reverb and tons of effects loop options and I think you would be pleasantly surprised. I have also added an EQ pedal for some extra tone shaping and an additional overdrive for a different flavor if I so choose. I do think your choice of cabinet and speakers will make a difference. I'm currently using Orange PPC 2x12's which are great but they are darker sounding and bass heavy (at least to my ears)......but it's not something I can't compensate for and in now way sounds like shit. Just my thoughts................

I agree. All the amps mentioned are great amps, but you really should come out and try them if you can. Sound is one thing, feel and dynamics is another.

hmmm, You do not have to use the diode clipping in the CCV,

VH4 is awesome but the OP wants 1 amp, IMO the CCV would be a great one amp the VH4 would bumm me out cause while it's high gain is awesome it's semi gain is 'almost there' CCV Does good in both departments, from what you have listed CCV is the only choice, If you DO go Diezel go Hagen b4 CCV VH4 is a better amp but Hagen is a bit more versatile -- it was apparent inside of 5 minutes

Nope, check the Hagen for these qualities and more... The Hagen's got the organic, greasy, open thang happening full throttle.

Nah, I wasn't high when I posted that. I just know Ch.2 on the VH4 pretty well, and man, with gain at noon or just shy, maybe a touch of BB Pre upfront? It seriously rips. Not high - but then again, you know, preference is a very very personal thing.

Hey, at least you enjoy my posts   Thanks for that at least

Channel 2 of the VH4 rips. I'm a high gain hard rock guy and I probably split my time evenly between Ch 2 and 3 depending on the song and/or my mood. But to get that aggressive tone out of Ch 2, you kinda have to crush the strings with a heavy right hand. The notes are much softer and rounder if you back off the attack. Great to have those dynamics, but sounds terrible if I'm trying to rock out in a lazy mood!

Having played a large selection of amps over the years, when I went to the VH4 Ch2, I immediately thought "jumpered Plexi with everything on 10. It was fantastic.

VH4  A VH4S has been my main amp for the last six years, owning it has enabled me to thin out the herd :)
