Yeah..Im hoping to demo the Colossus here in the next few weeks or shortly after Namm if things work out.

Looking forward to hearing Josh's head to head comparison of the CCV and MK50II...
Two completely different amps. No comparison to each other. One cannot come close to doing what the other can. Not even in the same ballpark. Both great at what they do.

I'm very suprised so many of you are suggesting the vh4...I had one & really couldn't stand it. All the other guys in my band felt pretty much the same as well. -Brent
What does your band play, rap and hip-hop?

VH4 is a great amp. It's flexible in that it can be dialed in to sit well in almost any genre of music, but IMHO it has an inherent VH4 tone and structure at all times. If the sound in your head strays outside of the amp's comfort zone, it can start sounding very average (at best). For example, I don't think the amp particularly likes having that real saturated, dripping wet with gain type sound. It can do it with the gain turned up, but the amp gives me the impression that it's not happy about it. That's fine with me, because I like the gain to be right at the cusp of saturation, which is where the VH4 excels IMHO. So as all amps, best to try before you buy.

Damn straight

Hence the reason:
a) This forum exists and thrives
b) There are so many amp manufacturers and models

As I've said before and will say again, some of my fave players can make almost any - even the cheapest and crappiest - amp sing like none other... So it goes. They play, we tap on a keyboard - such is life :D

Anyone who's played the Cornford MK50II care to share their thoughts..good or bad.. Really interested in this amp and it's possibilities. Thanx

It's what a JMP50 wants to be when it grows up. A perfect balance between amp "feel" and filtering. A very unique cutting low treble. Not an upper mid amp like an SLO. Darker than an SLO. A looser bass but not in a bad way. Nice layers to it. Not a metal amp but takes a boost very well. Great effects loop. Nothing not to like really. Very nice note bloom and string seperation. Harmonics.

Nice description... and very familiar to what I've heard from another gear guru.. Being that the new Suhr PT100 has a slightly different ch 2 voicing, lower filtering and different headshell... Where things stand right now is quite possible the Cornford or Suhr(when she comes out)... I think either one will be a damn good amp.. I just want to lock down my rig and be done for quite some time. Thanx for feedback.

I haven't gotten to play the Cornford yet but I hear the clean channel is pretty meh compared to the PT.

Most cleans are pretty meh compared to the PT100  ...for channel switchers that is

looking for a channel switcher with a good clean, a pushed plexi into hot rodded marshall with room for a slightly more compressed/saturated voice, with an extra gain/ch for leads.

Sounds like a 5153 to me,...

Sounds like a VHT sig x to me, (most saturated amp ever)

But to answer your thread. This tone chasing is an addiction. There will never be a one amp and done.

My Thursday lineup....

Cornford MK50II/Cameron CCV/Rhodes Colossus/Fortin 2ch....... One of those will most likely be my choice
What's the Fortin 2 channel?

2 channel Cali Mod that was built for Frank, then miraculously ended up in my possession. Separate LG channel EQ on back, parallel tube loop, depth, etc. Loaded up with vintage caps and has the 500V LD trannie in it. It is just explosive. As far as modded Marshall's go that I have owned/own, it is at the very top of the heap for me.

Just got back from Thailand and am wrecked. But, between today and tomorrow, I am going to throw 3 comparison clips up of the 2C/Cali, the Corndog and the CCV with approximately the same gain levels, volume, etc to try and compare. Forewarning though, nothing I own will keep up with the Cali.

Getting the music room rearranged a bit. It was a mess after the last gig.

Looking forward to this comparison  Thanks for doing it

I'm agreeing with a few posts on page 1.... Go back to the 20th xtc! Unless you just didn't dig it.

Are we still kicking this horse, men??

How about this... Seems to work wonders with Phil X

u know some of the best angry tones come from old junky/broken old little tube amps. You mike it and hide it behind the stack, Leave the rest to the soundman ! Been there before, hahaha, and now those tones are most widely sought after !! perhaps i should start stock piling them, secret weapons.

Agreed on this - I mean, everything from the tonemaster through to the roland jazz chorus to the traynor ts series - POSs in their day, now? Magic mojo. I am, too, looking to maybe score a couple BTS combos from days gone by... I bet they're just killer, and hey, little 5, 10 or 15W combos can crank nicely
