I put a quad of Mojotone Greyhounds in one 412 and was going to do the same to this other one too so I could full stack if I ever wanted to. But I had to switch gears since an incoming amp has only 4-8 ohm tap and I had planned for 16 ohm cabs. Not all of my other amps have a 4 ohm tap so to work all the way around 8 ohm cab it is. Since this cab won't match my other one for a full stack I might as well set it up with different speakers.

I'm basically wanting something that has clarity and enough mids to not sound scooped. BUT I do not want a V30 or Greenback, I'd like something a little more unique. I've looked at pretty much everything from Celestion and Eminence as well as a few other brands like Scumback & Weber. Top contenders are Weber Grey Wolf, Weber Grey Wolf x Silver Wolf mix, and Celestion Redbacks. And there's still the option of Mojotone Greyhounds but set for 8 ohms.

Any opinions, comparisons, or other thought on these speakers? Anything not as well known or off the beaten path that I should take a look at before making a final decision?

Always liked the original CL80's. I have heard that the Mesa MC90's are the same speaker.

I always suggest 65s or a clone like the WGS ET65. Nice mids, like a higher powered GB yet different. Even more different than a V30.

I haven't played through an actual Celestion 1265. I do have a WGS ET65 that to me is okay. There's something about it I just don't care for but can't place my finger on it; maybe not enough upper end clarity? I also have and ET90 which I like much better than the ET65. Whatever is turning me off to the ET65 isn't there in the ET90 and it sounds fuller to my ears.

To be honest what I'd really like would be more along the lines of a high power Celestion Blue. But a Quad of alnico speakers is out of my price range; that and for $1000+ I'd rather buy a different cab. I know a V30 was supposed to be the ceramic version of a Blue but they don't sound the same to me and V30 isn't what I want. That's also what lead me to the Weber Blue Dog/Silver Bell then to the Grey Wolf/Silver Wolf. Price wise I'm looking at ceramic. They're not a Blue either, but they're also not a V30 which is what's more appealing to me.

Have you checked out the Celestion A type or V type?
Both have nice definition and present enough low end.

I have some Celestion Neos in a 2x12 cab and really like them.

Yeah, I checked those out too as well as the Neo V type. They all sound good, but there's others that I liked better
