Opinions on a few pickups I haven't tried...

So I am looking to load something I haven't tried into one of my guitars. I will be playing low tuned metal on this guitar. Can I get opinions on the following pickups from you guys.

Dimarzio Evolution

Dimarzio Dominion

Dimarzio Titan

Seymour Duncan Custom 5

Seymour Duncan Distortion
 
Duncan Distortion is tough to beat. It's my personal favorite. The Blackwinter is even a hair better, even being nearly the same thing as a DD. The Nazgul is pretty good too, tight and clear, but still chunky.
 
I have a blackwinter in one of my RGs and a Nazgul in a guitar I just sold. I liked the Nazgul, the chords sounded massive and the crunch was insane but the individual notes when hybrid picking and such just had a tone that I didn't care for. Something about it I didn't like. So you are saying the blackwinter is just a hot rodded Duncan distortion?
 
Never tried the Nazgul but I will agree that the Distortion is hard to beat. By far my favorite pickup ever. Perfect for metal, down tuned or not.
 
I went off the board and decided to try a Seymour Duncan Pegasus. Let's see what this thing can do.
 
Which guitar is it going in ? If its going in your Ibanez and its a basswood body I would recommend the Evolution. I had one in a Ibanez basswood and it was pretty awesome. I would recommend Duncans for Mahogany and Alder
 
A Dimarzio Dominion will be my next pickup purchase. There are some amazing clips out there.
 
I have the Evolution in a LP copy. It's a very immediate and bright/brash pup. Cuts like a razor. I would probably hate it in most guitars but it's actually sort of cool in the LP, being a thick slab of wood. I would think in a super strat or similar style of axe it might be very obnoxious sounding unless you were using a dark voiced amp.
 
i have a custom 5 in an alder body, maple neck jackson. amazing pickup. almost percussive sounding.brought the guitar to life and turned it into a chugmonster.
 
I really like the DD for set neck short scaled guitars. It sounds like a beast, but it's too bright for some guitars in my humble opinion where as I love the Custom 5 too though. The EVO I thought was too bright too, and had too much high end kinda like a JB or something.. I'm usually though putting these in a Alder bodied or basswood bodied strat style guitar with a trem / floyd or something.. The Dominion sounds great, but I've not tried it.. If you want a really powerful pickup that's not too bright, I think the Dimarzio Super 3 is way under rated. I love those in a basswood guitar which I had in the form of a Fender HM Strat and it sounded great, and I had one in a Jap Ibanez and it again sounded great! It was a RG4 something and I hated the trem in that guitar so I blocked it, and put the super 3 in and it would scream! Loved it.. Hope that helps!
 
I have a Duncan Distortion in a alder body Jackson Soloist and I hate it. Just dead sounding to my ears. But this stuff is all sooooo subjective..

I have a Custom 5 in a cheap Yamaha Strat. Big improvement from the low output Fender I had before. They are supposed to be a little mid scooped. But, I like a mid heavy sound and really like this pickup.

I have always bought JB's by default. I traded for a guitar with Distortions a couple of weeks ago, and I think I have found a new favorite. Alot of brightness without harshness.
 
I think pickups are probably about 97% of the tone of a guitar.. Maybe how they're mounted and scale length, etc.. So one can really change the sound of an instrument with pickups which is great if you ask me!
