Hey Guys,

I was hesitant to post this but I have given the seller and member here every opportunity to do the right thing and they have after several weeks done nothing. Wanted to get your opinions on the situation and what I should do.

Here is the deal.

One of the users here posted several items for sale in the classifieds. One was a large oversize Bogner 2x12 speaker cabinet. I contact them we work out a deal and I buy it. I pay pal them the money and tell them I will take care of the shipping with my UPS account #. Alls they need to do is pack the cab and take it to a UPS Terminal and ship it via UPS GROUND to me using my UPS account #.

I get a PM from the seller saying he took the cab down to a UPS Store near him and they told him he had to ship it via UPS 2nd Day Air service because they were out of UPS Ground labels.

He PM's me and tell me me he sent it air on my account and it shouldn't be too much more maybe $40 bucks. I immediately tell him that is not cool and it will cost a fortune to ship a guitar cabinet 2 day air and I never would of authorized that on my account. I call the UPS Store who said tuff luck, thats what he choose thats what you get.

I let him know it will cost a fortune and he will need to make it right and pay the difference in the shipping from Ground which he was clearly told to use to the 2nd day which he did use.

He said he would wait to hear from me and he hoped it wouldn't be too much more money but let him know what the difference is when I get my bill.

Fast forward 2 weeks and I get my UPS bill. The total for the shipping on the $550 cabinet is...$469.36 dollars!!! (see copy of UPS bill below).

I immediately get it touch with seller and tell him I got the bill and he is going to need to take care of the difference which is $400 for his shipping it the way he chose too.

He says he has no money and doesnt feel as if it should be his problem.

I tell him it is 100% his doing, he sent the cab the 2nd most expensive way he could with no regard to cost to me in direct opposition to what he was authorized to do.

I told him he could send me something worth $400 or pay me $100 a week till he paid me the $400 but one way or another he needed to man up and take care of this.

He has now gone silent although he still is advertising in the classifieds here.

I am going to let you guys tell me if I am wrong?

Am I missing something here or being a hard ass. I know if the shoe was on the other foot (which it would never be as I wouldn't of been careless with someone else's money) I would immediately make it right and apologize.

I havent named the user here yet but I am sure he will read this. Hopefully he will post up and tell me why he should be able to say tuff luck to me for $400 bucks.

What do you guys think?

My UPS Bill below for the shipping on this cabinet:

100% his doing.
Why not just wait a day, or take it to a different hub/terminal?

It can`t be like those terminals are out of important paperwork more than one day anyway.

edit: Truth be told, it is the UPS employee who should have his head smacked. He more or less duped the seller. The seller should still consider that there would be a price difference....

Hate to say it, but I'm betting he and a UPS store employee are running a bit of a scam here. What are the odds that a UPS store is out of ground labels? Really?!
That sucks Brad, and the other guy is totally in the wrong here. Sorry to hear this happened.

Yikes. Sorry to hear it.

The guy should make it right, but who knows.

It's a perfect storm of screwups, all of which I'm sure you're aware of. Nobody is as careful with your money as you are.

That's pretty fucked up,I would take action for sure, sounds like you got scammed Brad!!!I wish people like this would disappear :D

Wow, that has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of anyone doing  Dude messed up and now he needs to man up and take responsibility for it and chalk up his lost money to a hard lesson learned

He definitely should be paying the difference. Thats ridiculous. Theres no way any one with a reasonable thought in their head can think that 2nd day is not going to cost SIGNIFICANTLY more than ground.

that guy is 100% WRONG! he should of contacted you ASAP and cleared that shipping method with you first. He has to make this right. i hope you dont get burned on this deal Brad, GOOD LUCK

$445 for shipping!!

Sure, it's all your fault Brad! Giving him access to your shipping account.

What the fuck kind of excuse is "We're out of labels"?
And if they ARE, in fact, out of labels, the Polish in me says that they should upgrade your shipping for free.

Totally SUCKS!! THe one thing I would never do is give someone my shipping account....its the same thing as giving someone your credit card, just never gonna happen. I do believe the guy when he says he doesnt have the cash, and I do believe him if he went to the store and the guy at the counter scammed the crap out of him, saying yeah we can pack it up and 2nd day air will only be 40 bucks more and he says cool and walks out. If I were you Brad, I would be hitting up UPS!!! You will have MUCH more luck there than with the guy. As it sounds to me that the UPS store is the one that really screwed you. I have to absolutely cry BS that they were out of ground labels...BULLSHIT!!! No way in hell I believe that. THe guy went in and said he was putting it on your account and the guy behind the counter took advantage of it. THE guy dropping off the cab is a musician so how smart could he really be??? :D

Call UPS and raise almighty hell...there is a good chance they will credit your account, as they will check your history on your shipping acct....just tell them FedEx works just as hard for your money and if they wont do the right thing that you will ship with a company who will....heck if it was me I would be telling them the guy said to ship it ground and the store did it on their own....they are not affiliated with UPS, they are privately owned franchises, which is why the guy pulled the crap in the first place...I would bet it was the owner of the place and he saw his opportunity to make a 100 bux or so... I am sure if the guy would have told him it would be 400 dollars to ship it he would have turned it down, but he said it "will be a little extra, no big deal, jsut leave it and I will get it taken care of" and then you get the big surprise....not the guy who shipped it. THe UPS guy figures that it will never come back to haunt him and it was easy money.

Yeah, I say it's more in the hands of the UPS terminal than your seller, and at this point he is probably like "they said it wouldn't be much more for air shipping and yeah, it's not Brad's fault, but it isn't necessarily mine (seller) either."

ALWAYS drop off a package at the local hub, or just schedule for your driver to come get your package. THose UPS stores add a fair amount onto the rate trying to get a slice of the pie too.

Nah,
That is crap Brad. You are not in the wrong here.
UPS Stores brand are indeed wholly owned by UPS. They sell highly regulated franchises to individuals. I know, I have worked at UPS for 32 years next month.

When you take your package in, you fill out a form,
the UPS store types the info into their computer, and then it spits out the label. That label is the same for Next Day Air, 2nd Day Air, or ground. The 'label' is simply a blank piece of paper that the computer prints onto. UNLESS, they used a Way Bill shipping form.

Even if the guy who shipped it used a Way Bill to ship that cab, there is NO WAY that he didn't know the difference in shipping costs unless he simply didn't care to ask. The UPS store people WILL tell you the cost of shipping. They will finish waiting on you before taking care of another customer. They MUST tell you the price of shipping.

He either didn't care or simply left your info and they did what they wanted to. Either way, he is at fault and should pay the difference.

Something is not right anything over 150 pounds is UPS freight and I did not know a 2x12 is close to 200 lbs? :aww:

Fuel surcharge and oversize charge are suspect plus it could have been sent 3 day saver if they were out of ground shipping labels. Somethings is not right.

Also I always tell people to go to the hub instead of a UPS store because of BS like this.

Since when does a 2-12 cab weigh 195.7 lbs?

Since there is limited cargo space on each plane, they charge based on a dimensional weight plan.

you said it best Brad:

it is 100% his doing, he sent the cab the 2nd most expensive way he could with no regard to cost to me in direct opposition to what he was authorized to do.

BTW your home address is all over that form, you might not want it eternally public.

I think this is the best solution to the problem, if the seller doesn't want to man up and pay the difference for his mistake (which it doesn't sound like he will) you should raise the issue with UPS and see what you can do about getting a refund with them. Shitty deal all around, sorry to hear someone from this board would fuck over another member :aww:

THE UPS store packed it also from what I gather with the thread.....so I can totally see the guy saying it will jsut be a bit more for air and not tell the guy what its really going to cost, as they will tell him they wont know until its been packed up...hence the fake weight, huge surcharges, etc... I just cant see the guy being told it will be 400 dollars to ship and he being ok with it, wether it was his account or not. I can see myself being told its 40 bux extra and I say go ahead so I dont have to make a return trip to the store....figuring if Brad is pissed I just cover it myself....then they say its 400 and I kind of balk at it, as that means I just gave away the cab for free...it puts both the seller and buyer in a crappy situation, meanwhile hte UPS store owner is laughing all the way to the bank....Like I said I would be pounding down the door at UPS Customer service for sure! Complete bait and switch here without a doubt.
