Awesome looking guitars. Your personal guitar pics look just as good as the ones on the web site. Not just sales hype on the finish...

How is the playability against a Suhr S1-S6 level of guitar? The $$ is somewhat similar with Carvin being about 20% lower. But talking 1850 to 2250 is not really that much of a diff when you got that much on the table.

From the hard core devoted buyers, it looks like the Carvin (gasp) may be better than the Suhr Pro S1-S6 series.

Anybody played or owned both? A Carvin around here is like an honest politician.

Played a Suhr Pro 1 recently and I own a Carvin Koa Body H-S-S Ebony fingerboard nickel frets 14" Radius with Sperzels.

The S1 has the same sperzels, the exact same Jescar Frets( medium jumbo nickel) stainless optional on both .

The Suhr Pro1 has the "Easy C Slim" neck, the Carvin neck is a bit beefier.

Suhr has 12-14" radius 'board feels similar to my 14" Radius on the Carvin the Carvin is a tad wider at nut.

These are both very playable resonant guitars, the carvin's Koa is much heavier and has more unplugged/plugged in resonance and sustain, the Pro 1 still had very nice resonance/sustain.

The 10s on the Suhr felt like 09s- really easy to play and many players like the Suhr Pickups .

Workmanship and fret work etc. most other Bolt On guitars other than boutiques don't go here, they both feel like premium axes.

Also regarding the resonance and fat sustain ,my particular solid body Koa Bolt is very heavy ( never weighed it but prob. over 10 pounds ) so that might not be the same with all Carvin Bolts.

The Alder Bolts and even the Mahogany Bolts are usually LIGHTWEIGHT, the particular KOA that I have is heavy in weight but has as I said extreme resonance and beef and sustain plugged or unplugged ( loud like thin semi hollow unplugged) and very thick and deep plugged in tones.

Just scored a early Fathers Day/Birthday gift at Guitar Center ...(go figure...lol)
Went in to check out a few delay pedals when I decided to check the used gear at the back of the store.

There hung a near mint Carvin Strat(still not sure what model )Mahogany tung oil finished body,Maple bolt on neck, reverse head stock,no fretboard markers, black hardware,Spurzels.
2 humbuckers mounted directly into the body, dont look like the typical Carvins. String through bridge.
This guitar absolutly out plays alot of past axes Iv'e owned(at 4 times the price what I got this for) and has really sweet tone and sustain. And the intonation plays dead on to the 22nd fret.

$460.00 out the door !

I've been wanting to order a brand new carvin for years but the resale value really kills it for me. Maybe one of these days I will grow some balls and do it

that's very true about the resale value, but honestly if you take the time to pick out exactly what woods and specs you want you'll never want to sell the guitar :D

i guess you could look at it that way.... but honestly they are exactly what i've been looking for, i cant tell you how happy i am with mine... Im not into buying and selling guitars... guitars are very personal to me, and i usually keep them...

That's good to hear, since the retail value of Carvins are crap. No matter how good they might me. Personally, their specs look great, their build quality seems top notch, but I think they are not good looking guitars at all. Again....just a personal opinion. I hope your new guitar kicks ass for you!

:)

These pics are Reason No.1 I steer clear of that god forsaken brutally addictive "do it yourself" Carvin site!! I've been HOOKED on that site since the day I found it, but always try to forget about it because man oh man, so many days, whiddling away the time, I stock this magical ax up with every option I could dream of, and every top quality wood I want, finish, everything (except the pups) and come SO CLOSE to pulling the trigger... And now, this thread, damn you all - this thread has planted the seed, YET again!!

If it wasn't for my new Suhr coming on Tuesday, I'd be building my next fantasy ax right now... So I guess this will be August's project now

got it ! pics to come

it is amazing.... like the fastest les paul ever...lots of resonance and great tone, used it on a gig the other night and i didn't even miss my 24 fret dc127 , very impressed!

I really liked the stock pickups for some reason in the one... ESPECIALLY the neck pickup, infact the neck pickup was clearer then the aldrich i put in with even more gain, i may go back to it... we'll see....

The heel is just incredible, i can get my ring finger passed the 22nd fret w/ ease, if i had to compare this is the ferrari version of a les paul, faster lighter, sportier.

Where as the gibson or prs would be more of a rolls royce, slower and heavier.... but still an amazing product...

hats off again to carvin, excellent detail and guitar!
