A plexi should have some noise involved imo, that is part of the magic that analog caught years ago of plexi type amps gunned and the guys that mastered them.

I have a modded YJM308 that is supposed to be built to the specs of the original gray DOD OD250 and the modded pedal is anything but thin. It is extremely thick sounding.

Who wants self biasing anyways? I bias an amp based on how I want it to sound.....maybe hot, maybe cold, depends.

you can bias it to whatever current you want, just no need to open and measure or turn trimmers...

I think u can still adjust the bias to what level u want, its just that u select the level and then the amp automatically self adjusts. I do wish that they would have used the RI format and not the modern jvm based , the insides on those look like a computers! I do think that the yjm clips sound awesome, I only worry about the build quality, but if u buy new , u get a warranty for a while at least.

well, all modern amps built to the year we live in specs and regardless of the brand look more or less the same...

the YJM DOD is noisy, yes, but it is basically a treble booster with lots of gain so you expect some degree of noise. I'd not say it is thin sounding though, Yngwie doesn't sound thin to my ears...

Couldnt they just build an amp without noise?...or should I say, to be quiet?

That is because the DOD is noisy as hell! Yngwie uses 2 Boss noise gates. Just an opinion but those DOD units are really thin sounding, and only good to play ultra speed neo classical shred.

I totally disagree unless you're talking about the YJM DOD 308 being thin.. the original DOD grey is VERY full sounding..the YJM DOD is not even close to that spec. But yeah they are noisier than any pedal I've ever owned. It would be nice to know if its the YJM 308 or the original grey DOD in this amp, or if its added gain stage which may explain the extra preamp tube, unless that's used as a buffered effects loop ..

the boost circuit didn't sound like either DOD to me - I was using my strat with a humbucker - that would be usually very tubby with either DOD version - this boost sounded tight, more like a tubescreamer.
