For me, it's like this: every genre has a talented few bands/performers that excel at what they do...these define the genre. Then, you have the rest....watered down intermediates/novices that record execs scramble to sign so they can pack their labels. And now, with dropped tunings, gobs of gain, and MySpace pages, every one finger string flogger with a bad case of bronchitis can dress the part and be "metal." As it goes with pop, rap, emo, etc....

I ran security for awhile at a club here that featured "local" metal, punk, rap, etc....At times it was real sad....but funny for me at the same time.

Keith check out Opeth. There's a bit of growly stuff, but then he turns around with some of the most beautiful, clean vocals you've ever heard. They're kind of like a metal pink floyd gone progressive. Lots of mellow moments.

If you call this generic guy's clean "majestic" you have very low standards. singin' ain't easy by any means either. but there are degrees of difficulty that some of these peeps ain't discussin'...yes, it's easier to play a nirvana song than a dream theater song. does that make the nirvana song less of a song? not necessarily (and i hate nirvana). some guys get up and just grunt with the beat and i'm assuming that wouldn't be AS difficult. some guys are actually varying their growls and such and that is very hard to do, especially song after song. some guys, myself included do alot of open-throated growls and those are difficult cuz you're pushing so much air. my stomach gets sore from practice now. LOL!

anyways, i don't know why people always gotta diss death metal. i guess it's cuz the majority don't like it so they can speak up and they got "back-up". kinda like the dude who don't talk shit until all his homies are there. meh...whatever.
personally, i despise country music but you don't see me rippin' it in every thread cuz i know a few guys here like it, like ed d and telephant...so i don't fuk wit it...prolly cuz i'm not a douche.

True... I sang in church as a kid, I was a member of The American Boy Choir, I can sing just about anything pretty damn well. Death Metal vocals are the toughest to do with maybe the exception of the really high old-school Halfordish stuff. Sang in a death metal band for bout 5 years, cant do it anymore. Small minded people like to talk trash about stuff they don't understand..
