I hear ya. I re-hurt my back 2 weeks ago and since I already know I have a herniated disk in L5, I went right to the doctor to get an MRI. Believe it or not, my back actually feels 99% normal now, but it was a scare. I wasnt able to do shit without it killing my left leg. Since then, for some unknown reason, I have been playing different types of music. I pulled out the strat and have been playing blues (even with a wah). Total pentatonic and blues minor stuff (no Yngwie scales :scared: ) Tonight I learned the solo to "Just What I Needed" by the Cars   I guess I have made some life changes too   Cars music sounds great through my Cameron Aldrich :D
Dave! Sorry to hear about your back bro!! Now you will have to be carefull lugging those cabs around for amp fests!!! With that said, Learn as much as you can form different styles. The coverband has gotten me into practicing shit that Id normally pass up and its helping me out bigtime

I've been thinking that its time for me to get into shape and Ive decided to work out..... Yet again and the plan is to drop my Bodyfat down to the single digits by January.
With that said I have also decided to start Practicing the guitar in hopes of better my playing. My playing absolutely blows IMHO and it's time to correct it.

The difference now is that Im fully prepared to do what I say instead of just saying it and letting go by the wayside

I hope all is well with everyone and chime in if you've got some goals!!

~R~

This is great news Ralphie! Now the whole forum can quit calling you "Lumpy" behind your back. \:D/

Shit and I thought they called me Spongey.... I'm deeply hurt :hys:

Good luck on your fitness and musical goals bro, Aint nothin to it but to do it. Im on a somewhat similar path, though work has been so crazy busy, its a tough thing to manage with the amount of hours that Ive been putting in.

Ill never get underneath 220, I just dont think its possible on my frame. The last time I did that was almost 18 years ago when I did a cutting cycle with Winstrol and Equipoise. I got down to about 218 and there were veins all over me and you could see the striations in my Glutes for crying out loud!!! Shit, 4-5 years ago when I was hittin the weights hard, I was 268 and wearing 34 jeans( wearing 36 now). I bounce back pretty quickly and my diet has always been clean so Im not stressing over anything, its just finding the time to get back to a regular regimen...

6 feet 220 plus ..... I was 190 ~ 4 months ago. I look best around 190 with my frame. I have been over 260 ~ 4 times so this should be easy. I can gain and loose very easy without drugs. A few other people in my family are the same.
You sound like you have the type of metabolism that's perfect for weight gain or loss. Lots of people aren't so lucky

Hey Ralph...

what is your method of being prepared for your meals.

That is the hardest part for me...I have a heck of a time keeping healthy meals ready for breakfast lunch and snacks.

Dinner isn't usually too hard...being I have time to prepare the meal...but being rushed in the morning usually means my breakfast and lunch suffer. I am sure you have a plan...getting below 10% has to be pretty strict dieting.

I know failure to plan is planning for failure....or something like that.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated...

hopefully ill be able to GAIN some weight before jan lol. im 21 and WAY below the healthy range. ive always been active, and im just tall and have an athletic build.

due to stress, school, work issues, ive lost alot of weight. ive been steadily improving on my playing though. taking routes i normally never ventured, and disecting alot of theory from books i have purchased.

hopefully ill be able to make it out to some of these jams sometime

Could you list these books.
They say knowledge is power.

I too need to get more practice in, and lossin some lb's wouldn't hurt either, did quit smokin' this year so taht was one positive.

I'm about 6' 1. In 2001 I weighed in at 138lbs  WAAAAY to skinny! Now at age 28 I'm about 192 pounds-much better

I always complained about being too skinny, and could not put on weight no matter how much I ate.(I once ate 40 tacos to win an eating contest...)
But now that I'm gaining, it seems like it won't stop! I better start doing some sit-ups and push-ups!

Wassup!

My advice to you is to keep it simple and pick a diet that you will stick to. What I mean is if you hate the stuff that you are eating, you will fail....PERIOD. That has Happened to me many times where I was just quit because of my food choices... or should I say my choice of diet sucked. I would make it through a month and then literally be gagging through eating the same crap I didn't like.

Now with that said, I actually cook twice a weak for all my meals. I used to do it once a week and I cooked every Sunday night but Ive found that by the time I got to the weekend, the shit that I cooked previously got a bit gross even when I froze it, so by adding the extra cooking day, the food definitely stays fresher lol.

For this time around I am using two Diet methods that really work well for me. One is Eat stop Eat by Brad Pilon and the other is cheat to loose by Joel Marion.

The bottom line is and I don't care what anyone tells you is that in order to loose weight you have to take in less calories PERIOD. Ive tried low carb diets, carb rotation diets, 40/30/20 and just about anything that has come out in the last 11 years and in the end it allways comes down to calories burned TRUST ME ON THIS.
Another thing is that when you restrict your calories to much, you need a cheat binge to to reset everything.....every diet Ive tried has stopped working at sometime and you need to tweak something otherwise you will stall.

One other thing that Ive noticed and this might go against the grain here but lifting weights is more effective for fat loss then cardio. Cardio makes you more efficient at having to do more cardio lol Im not sayinf to eliminate it but Id look into HIIT cardio instead of long boring cardio!!

Hope this makes sense!!

I'm a small guy, 5'8 and around 140-145 depending on the week. However, I've been hitting the gym 4x a week in the last few weeks, as well as playing out more and practicing more in general.

Here's hoping all of it sticks!

Hi, I'm Bob. I like long walks on the beach, drinking champagne coolies and petting Yorkshire Terrier puppies.

But seriously... do it, Ralph. Maybe your example will be an inspiration to me. I never play guitar, and I weigh somewhere between 490 and 590 pounds, depending on what I had for breakfast.

I mean this in the most hetero of ways... I LOVE YOU :D

I'm pretty sure that the salad is going to help get some stuff unstuck. You might try donuts and pizza for the stick plan.

I just had pizza about 20 min ago and found some strawberry ice cream in the fridge. But I did OK .... only one piece and a little of the other.

I have found the best way to lose weight is to exercise, diet, and have lotsa sex.

Revolutionary, I know, but it seems to work.

I never had problems with staying in shape. I actually go to the gym less these days but that's because I started playing ice hockey last year and have never been in better condition. I think it's easier keeping a 5' 8" frame in shape. I'm about 178lbs right now.

It's the practicing I need to spend more time with.

And Ralph, bite all 3 of my balls. I wish I sucked half as much as you do. Wait. You know what I mean. :D
