Overdrive/Distortion pedal for John Sykes live tone?

Love Sykes man. Saw him once with Blue Murder at Long Bch chilli cookoff... very cool
 
Its really cool to see that everyone here admires John's playing as much as i do. Btw, here in the forum luxxtone said that he installed the BK pickups called "The Mule" and a Tonepros bridge in one of John's Les Pauls.

well, most BKP famous users are actually Dimarzio or Duncan endor$ers, but they do use BKPs as well

maybe someone can find a late 2008 or 2009 video of him playing the cream les paul?

by the way, I'm waiting a BK Aftermath/The Mule set to replace a Cold Sweat set in my '73 Custom (actually, I'm moving it back to my jap les paul copy)
 
I thought he used a Duncan Distortion but that might just be what Edwards puts in their Sykes sryle LPC.

+1 on fuck te JCM900. Take your own head. If you too lazy to take it then you get what you get. :D

Iv'e heard other guys say to use this amp and that amp etc. The Mark III is that tone. But Sykes tone on Slide it in sounds more like a Marshall to me.

Your Mk series Crispy Cream clips were fucking awesome, some of the best tone I have heard on the forums.

Pretty boys like you should not play so fucking good :lol: :LOL:
 
About a year or two ago, John brought me a cream 70's Les Paul Custom to put back together. We decided to go with a set of BKP Mules, and some TonePros hardware and Grover tuners. Sounded great!
 
In '95 (And in that live DVD) Sykes was using rack mount Recto's - He went back to his Marshalls on the 20th Century album around '97

 
Been checkin the Maxon SD9 Sonic Distortion lately in my quest for the right pedal for this kind of tone, what do you think? Wampler stuff seems great too.

a mark III in a stereo rack rig goes a long way toward whitesnake tone.

(cue zachman coming in with his clips/pics/rig diagrams :D )
 
Does anyone know what type of amp John Used on the Slide It In album? That's the perfect tone! I know he didn't play on the original UK version but his guitar is on the US version.
 
Since the 900 is a usage requirement focusing on using only the power amp and replacing the pre.

The Peavey has been suggested, but Mesa tones are more what your looking for. So Mesa pres might be a good choice, either Triaxis or Studio pre's. If you could find a Mesa Studio .22to use as a pre, that would work.

Marshall Jmp1 is a common option and easily obtained .

Norum uses a stock 2205, (that belonged to Michael Schenker), a 2210, and a 2555. He has one JCM800 4 input 1987 model, that was modded by Dave Friedman, BE mod.

I had a 2205 - killer amp. That would get you there!
