Which Overdrive Pedal

I know you are looking for an OD. Allot of these are tube screamer types and will add compression, a slight midhump, and cut some lows. I have used a few you have listed and so many more I cannot even remember them. The Himmelstrutz UO is a great pedal. I loved what it did but found it added too much hiss for me.I will not use noise gates. I hate them. I have owned a Koko. My favorite boost pedal which is different from any I tried is the Caroline Icarus boost. This pedal is so quiet you can use it with great results to open up your tone after and OD pedal used as a boost to tighten(gain low) The Icarus is not a traditional boost. It seems to be one of those hard to explain what it does pedals like the Badgerplex, although with the boost knob turned up it becomes more of a classic type boost. Not expensive either. Just a thought to try it with your existing OD. Another thought is a Klon type circuit. This circuit does not cut your lows or give the mid hump but will still do what you are looking for. The gain knob on the Klon circuit seems to add coloration in the mids. It seems to thicken them. It does not add high mids or give coloration that is not desirable. Allot of players love what it adds. Just keep the gain knob low at 25% or less and you will be good as it will not color the mids allot. I find the Klon circuit much more open than a TS circuit. I went through a quite a few of them and landed on the Monsterpiece Stud and second the new Illumintated OD version. The Stud comes in buffered and true bypass versions. What I really like about it is that the pedal allows you to add as much of the effect as you want, regardless if you have the gain knob low or off, without affecting the signal going to the amp. Allot of pedals will lower the signal going to your amp with the level and/or gain too low or off. If you have the pedal on and the level and gain all the way off, your signal still passes fully intact.

Have you flipped the internal switch on the GT-OD? It takes about 3 minutes.

Also, please don't recommend pedals other than the ones I just listed.

ahem gentlemen, did nobody notice the rules???!!!!!!

I think it has already been said and it was something i needed to realize too, when you hit the front end of your amp, you squash the signal some. I noticed this with setting the koko boost too high. So that said, if you want a gentle push, I really like the koko boost as well. I know it isn't listed in your list but i have been up and down obsessing about OD's and boosts and i really like this one. (edit: saw that you have one so forget it!)

If you flip the internal switch on your GT-OD, you'll end up with a ZW-44. May or may not be your thing. I also found the GT-OD to give me a bit too much compression when the gain was pushed. (though that did make for easy leads)

An EQ pedal might be your thing too.. overall though, the SLO has enough gain on tap so i'm thinking you want to tighten. For that, cheapo bad monkey and done!

Surprised - it adds none for me.

Joakim peed in yours

As Kapo_Polenton was saying, yes, the SLO has more than enough gain. I am mainly using it to tighten things up and also to push the crunch mode over the edge a little and am also doing the same when using it with my Fryette Pittbull UL and Mesa Mark III Coliseum.

Also, I prefer my MXR GT on the regular mode (not the ZW one). Again it's a great pedal and I plan to keep it, but right now I want something less compressed. Like I said before, just a little more open than the Sweet Honey, while still sounding like an OD and being able to adequetely tighten up my sound (which the Koko Boost doesn't do).

No because then I'd have to use it in all of my posts.

The only boost I've liked has been the green rhino because you can dial the low end back in and it retains the tightness of being boosted. I think that helps it move air more, too.

Ordered the new MXR FET Booster thru Joe B's site. A great copy of the BK Butler Tube Driver
