It could be for a multitude of reasons... price, who plays it, rarity. It seems like it mostly boils down to exclusivity. The more prohibitive the piece of gear is, the more hype it gets. Then you play it and realize... welp... it's just another amp/guitar/pedal... LOL!![]()

No shit, man. I didn't even think about that but glad you mentioned it. Snake oil bullshit right there IMO.![]()
The tones we all love weren't recorded with Cryogenic anything!![]()

I think cannibal corpse does well with metal zones as boosts also, I'm referring to the unit as the source of your high gain distortion, the truth is almost and distortion can be used before an amp set up as a useful boost. Think of it as a distortion pedal used as a pre distortion eq curve and output boost. I doubt either band is using much of the pedals actual transistor gain for dirt.
This is what I'm talking about. Most of the people I know use it for their main distortion into the clean channel of an amp.
I worked guitar retail for over 5 years and only sold Metal zones to kids starting out. Just because something is used a lot doesn't mean it's over-rated.
Is Bugera over-rated? Crate? All low price amps that are all over the place but they're not over-rated. They just fill that niche of budget item that gets the job done.

You can't call something overated just because it has a high pricetag and at the end of the day, this is all highly subjective.
If someone is willing to pay $4000 on an amp then so be it and you cannot blame the MFG for the asking price if people are willing to shell out the ca$h.
Some things to take into consideration...Mesa Boogie charges a boatload for there amps over seas. They have been doing it for years. Some of it has to do with shipping prices , import duties, build materials, cost of running a business, etc etc....so I ask you, Why shouldn't Peter Diezel Charge the same for his amps? (Just using Peter for a referance here since he has been mentioned!)
The last thing that I can say is that some of you guys take this shit way to personally. Who the hell cares if someone doesn't dig the same amp that you do? Seriously?
One mans overated amp is another mans Dream Rig. It's been that way for ages and will continue to be that way forever![]()

Don't get me wrong, I used to do the same freaking thing, Lord knows you guys know this to be true, but Now I know that in the grand scheme of things, Who gives a crap!
All the best~

I've spent extensive time with the Herbert, VH4 and Einstein...and they just didn't jive with me. Peter is definitely a great guy...but his amps are just not for me (no matter what the price point)
Honestly, I was chasing tone when I landed on the Diezel doorstep... Because of Peter & Staff, the amazing Diezel community, and their undeniably incredible quality amps, I am a fanboi. But here's something funny, I've posted this before but it needs to be reiterated. The Diezel tone is VERY prevalent in the VH4(S) and the Herbert and even the Einstein, and it's either a tone you gel with or you don't. I love it, but it's also someone else's trademark tone, if that makes any sense... It's very distinguished and easy to pick out. Since getting the Mak4, I found I can cover some serious territory on it and make it sound like I want it to - with varying degrees of inherent tone and so forth... I like it, because it's wide open - the canvas is mine to play with. I just invested $250 in preamp glass to augment it a bit because I really like where it's taking me...se7en":l1a549jb said:AmpliFIRE":l1a549jb said:skoora":l1a549jb said:Gotta agree about the Herbert. I feel the same way...wanted to dig 'em and Peter is a stand-up dude, but just couldn't get into them.
