Tasteless solos??????

Hmmmmm, you might wanna re think this man, he has some pretty awesome, melodic, technical, tasty, tonefull............ Etc, etc......

I have to disagree here.
Agreed! Just off the top of the noggin, the "Beat It" solo is one of the most memorable, finest examples of a guitar solo ever, having feel, tension/release, technique, tone, heart, etc...and that may not even be his best lol....hardly a "tasteless solo" anyway, at least not to the majority of the guitar playing world (both young or older) but whatever .. each his own.

Underrated

Bruce Springsteen. His technique is very basic, he is not a virtuoso by any means, but back in the day he could do some really gutsy and powerful guitar playing.

Pep Sala. Nobody knows him internationally, but he was the guitarist of the mythical catalan rock band Sau. And in my opinion he made one of the most beautiful solos in the history of "el Rock català".

Pino Palladino was the bassist in the records of Sau from this era. He is famous for have worked with The Who, John Mayer, Simon & Garfunkel or Jeff Beck.

Overrated

Bonamassa. He is a hell of a guitar player, but I find his music really boring and unoriginal, and at the end the music you do is the most important thing.

Springsteen in that Video is a PERFECT example of an underrated guitar player. Everyone on the planet knows the guy and I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone ever mention his guitar playing. I just figured he could barely bash out chords (he always seems low in the mix) :aww: . Apparently he can actually play

Most people only have a very primitive image of Bruce as an artist. One that doesn't represents him or his career at all.

And his Darkness on the edge of town era was his best era as a guitar player.

After Bruce walked away from the lead guitar, Nils Lofgren took that place in the band (great guitar player).

Amazing solo in this song. Starts after 4 minutes (more or less).

Keith Scott from Bryan Adams' band. IMO, super underrated and killer tone. He puts together some of the most soulful and tasteful solos that always fit the theme of the song and take it to another level.

Hate Bryan Adams, but I agree with you completely

Also mentioned earlier:
Clapton is insanely overrated.
Vito Bratta is underrated.
Dweezil is underrated.

Dunno if it was mentioned earlier, but Jason Bieler is underrated.

I think Dimebag was underrated, not because he wasn’t recognized for his abilities, I just don’t think people realize what a genius he was.

Larry Lalonde is another great underrated player. Max Calavera, too.

Steve Stevens underrated. I think many people just see him as “Billy Idols” guitarist and not the monster player he is.

I don’t know if Honeymoon Suite ever broke through in the US but I saw them live in the early 2000s and the guitar player was RIPPIN’. Was super surprised. I wasn’t even gonna go because I never really listened to their stuff (too poppy for me at the time). Just googled it. Guys name is Derry Grehan.

They are a guilty pleasure for me. I've been a HS fan since the mid to late 80s. Derry is definitely an underrated talent.

I totally disagree on Dimebag. Guy was awesome, and wasn't your "cookie-cutter" type shredder. He had a very new style, sound, and pioneered a generation of "new" heavy metal. He was one of a kind, for sure, and had the chops that were on "A New Level", (no pun intended).

I might add Mike Campbell from the Tom Petty band, Roy Rogers (not the cowboy), and prince to underrated.

I think Dimbag is much like John Cena. From everything I've heard, both are/were super caring and nice guys who would give you the shirt off their back. I think dime was a solid player and a nice guy but not a guitar hero. His music spawned heavier styles of newer music and I think he's held up on a pedestal since he's died and I just don't think he was that good. Nice guy for sure. Solid player. but overrated. Cena is a way nice guy from a nice family (a friend knew his family in high school). Kids love him. But as a wrestler???? OVERRATED.

"Dime was alot like john cena, good guys but not good wrestlers"

--yeah but,.. He had killah tone!! AND!!!
HE WAS TECHNICALLY PROFICIENT!!!!!--
--Randy was ok, had sh1tty tone thou"!--
--"her boyfriend gave her too much Spanish fly, impailled herself on the stickshift in her car"-
-"John's dead, I AM THE WALRUS"-
-"give me some acid, a little dust, bag-o-chronic, fist full of Zoxy's,.. 5th of CRYSTAL SKULL VODKA, a finger of China white, 20 virgins, a amp & guitar from the future you play with your mind & soul & I could play just as good or better than HENDRIX!!! Id even be in tune!!!"
-There's a 63 CORVETTE for sale for $300... Dude died in it, can't get the smell out"

--<{··The HELLS GOING ON UP IN HEAR··}>--

Hank Shermann & Mike Denner are vastly underrated for what they did in early Mercyful Fate.
