Witherspoon also said he has publicly recounted the story before, including in talks to local youth.

"He was in the hospital maybe three or four days," Witherspoon said. "I don't want to blow it up too much, but if I had been (prosecuted) I probably would have never left Nebraska.

It was never unsolved or mysterious. He went to jail immediately after it happened like 60 years ago, it’s just that he got out of jail just as quick.

There was never any cover up and this confession wasn’t a bombshell being dropped.
