It wasn’t only Rita, from what I’ve read Dime/Vinnie’s father is in control of Vinnie’s estate and the ok to use the name came from him, not so much Rita. If it were just Rita that would have been a no-brainer, she made up with Phil years ago and has certainly had no problem putting Dime’s name on a bunch of bullshit.
Pantera is one of my favorite bands of all time, a massive influence on me and were the band that fully tilted me into a metalhead. I’m glad I got to see them twice in ‘01. But I’m also a huge Zakk fan, maybe just as much as Pantera in the context of influence. I gotta get a kick out of the rag mag sites using “Pantera Reunion” for clickbait and people just continuing to give them clicks so they can say “IT’S NOT A REUNION!” No shit, I don’t believe there is a single person involved in any of it, from the band members to the places like Blabbermouth, that think it’s a “reunion” in any way, but it sure as fuck drives up publicity.
Zakk said it best, it’s a tribute/celebration. I’ve got no problem tossing a few bucks towards that if it rolls it’s way through my area. The only real difference I expect to hear between Zakk/Dime is Zakk alternate picking some stuff that Dime did with legato, definitely not a disparagement enough for me to turn my nose up to. I know Grady already signed up to run the effects like he used to with Dime, but I’m curious what Zakk is going to use for amps.
