Partridge OT in a 2203

"Pretty good", I would guess, based on my experience with old Laney Supergroups that mostly are Marshall Super Bass based with Partridge transformers and high voltage power section.
Should be an interesting experiment, and worth doing IMHO.

Hermansson uses them in alot of his multi channel builds with Laney donor amps. I think they are spec'd for EL34's so I don't think they would sound all that different than the Drakes and Dagnall's Marshall used. Most of the differences will be in the circuit used to feed the Output transformer albeit there might be some coloring effect of the different brand and construction of the Partridge just depends.

This Laney PA100 in the Hermansson vid has a Partridge. OPT but your B+ is supplied by your Power transformer so being a 2203 it should be around 450 DCV for a 100 watter maybe a little more for 1981-86 JCM800's.

This Laney in the video has 600DCV with the Laney power transformer so with that B+ the amp is tighter with more headroom.

IDK, haven't tried it, but when I think of Partridge, I think of Hiwatt. Those sound great and not a mile away from a 2203. Different, yes, but not that different. @harddriver makes a good point that most of the differences will be in the circuit.

If I had to guess, I'd say a little tighter bass and a little bigger bass, maybe a touch less upper mids. But, IDK.

I am a sucker for Laney supergroups. I had the Ceriatone supergroup clone for a good bit. Apart from not having partridge transformers, it also had a lower voltage going to the power section, although I’m sure ceriatone would be fine with making the amp with the correct voltage.

Was a damn good sounding amp though.

I don't think the voltages jive. 2203's work best w/ 2203 parts.

OTs don't really have anything to do with voltages. The PT does along with the resistors in the power supply.

Sound, from a PT means nothing aside from the effect that it supplies or does not supply proper/ideal voltages. Throw one in if it puts out what you want to see in the amp.

I remember reading where a guy over at TGP had a late 70's 2203 with a Partridge OT in it. He liked it.

There was an old Park 150 that Psionic worked on several years ago that had on in it as well. That amp sounded like God made it. He said he was going to draw out the schematic for the amp. I emailed him about it, but ole Lyle never bothered replying. Figures!
