Partying in the 80's

Meh. For all the outrageousness and excessive materialism and commercialism etc., the 1980s was so bloody conservative it's putrid. I could never and can never ever bloody stand it at all.
Fuck eras, fuck this high school-y generation belonging conformist trendy shallow bullshit.

The stupid thing too is that the 1980s didn't really finish until after 1992. The look still permeated then.

And it's true too how the 1990s was a burned out hangover. Especially the mid-1990s. It's like everything slowed down and tried to go the complete opposite of the 1980s. Then by the time the Raunch Culture/Skank Era of the early 2000s rolled around, with all the nu-metal & hiphop etc., subliminally in the background was this '1980s resurgence' (Daft Punk planted the seeds...), and now those same skankholes are crying out for the 80s to be brought back again........ blegh.

I remember a different 80's I guess, or at least how they started out. Club scene = Disco. Women were all over that shit, not too many were into Black Sabbath or AC/DC, or would admit to it.

It was the beginning of the "Rock is Dead" era. Punk music was converting a lot of my hard-core rocker pals into the weird velvet underground scene.

At least I had Randy, Van Halen and AC/DC to tide me over until Metallica showed up, then others followed. Moved to LA in 88, were some hard times there, made enough to barely scrape by, from there I hit Toronto for an 8 year stint. Cool music there, the women were more open there and they'd actually go and hang out in a metal club like Gas Works....

I spent most of my highschool late 80's at sausage fest punk and thrash metal shows...
Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, Overkill, Suicidal, Exodus, etc.....nary a chick in site
I did see my share of big 80's arena rock shows and the chicks and partying was insane!
I embraced the 90's from a musical level...it was wide open, radio rock was great, metal was great (Pantera, Machine head, Fear Factory, Bio hazard, Dream theater, White Zombie, Prong, Monster Magnet, were releasing great albums), electronic and indie rock entered my world, And there was still shred and plenty of rock..you just had to look a little deeper for it..

I liked Ratt, Dokken, Crue, in there prime..
but later shit like Warrant, Trixter, Slaughter, Firehouse, etc..... that stuff was awful to me and I didn't miss it one bit...
My 80's gigs were at punk rock dives and living room mosh pits ...not the cool big 80's gigs!

I play in a band now that plays all the 80's metal classics..and people are ready to have fun with that again! Even the young kids are digging on it!

I remember being so into Black Sabbath and Dio,(Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Floyd, Rush, etc.) writing and drawing on my school notebooks, that my parents thought I was into Satanism   I was the jeans, jean jacket and hush puppies tan leather head shoe type.

I know a guy who partied big in the 80's he ended up snorting a bunch of Bogner heads and I think he is either a post op or pre-op tranny now. Kind of hot though...

Gas Works! Good times!

I remember the beers they served in glass bottles were the size of about 3 normal beers.

I'm amazed I'm still alive after the massive quantities of drugs I ingested back then.

being 19 y/o in 2001 and hearing "HEEEEYYY, MUST BE THE MONAYY" at every single party at the number one party school still makes me want to fucking die.

I missed everything.

playing guitar means nothing now.

3 shitty bands verses a whole decade :D

There was good stuff I just hated "hair" rock.

Ah Yes the 80's!! Good times indeed and I'm happy that I was able to play out and hang out at the clubs back then here in NY and LA
I just wish that I had more balls and had moved to LA when I wanted to back in 84-85.

The thing is that I think every decade has their fair share of cheese and even though the 90's were a bit gloomy I'm sure that some people growing up at that time will have very fond memories and other will not. (same as the 80's)
What I'm basically saying is that it really depends on the indicidual and how they look at the situation. Two people can go to the same party and at the end, one person will say how amazing it was and the other will think that it sucked LMAO.

All in all though I wouldn't trade growing up in the 80's for anything

ICP? Cmon dude, that was a low blow ;)

Loved the 80s (graduated class of 1989). I had a great time and the parties/guitar was awesome. I think back on those times fondly but would never want to go back. I like who I am now. I like modern sounding music but love the stuff I grew up on too. There is room in my life for all of it!

Maybe you're not

You might me be in the Limbo known as the Keith Richards Lemmy Zone.

Class of 81, was in a metal band from 84-91. Was very lucky to have survived. 2 guys in the band did not survive the excesses of our youth :( Did not care for the glam stuff, I hated it, but it was a great time for a lot of heavy music. We did a lot of covers - Maiden, Queensryche, Dio, Priest, Accept, Tesla, Triumph, Kings X stuff like that, but almost no fluff. Good times while it was good :D For us, it was our life for awhile. I miss those guys, I still talk to the still living ones regularly, I talk to the not living ones less :aww:
