I love all iterations of the Peavey 5150/6505/6534... that said, I hear nothing here that say's, "I gotta have that!!!" None of the videos to date have had any gas-inducing effects. Not that I need another amp, but I'd have to be in the room with one to really know if the tone is worth the price tag.
I think it sounds great but as long as I can pick up a NOS/clean 6505+ on CL for $600 - $700 I really can't find a reason to spend $1,900.
It's not really a fair comparison between the used price of one amp to the new price of another...
when the new thing is only offering an exceedingly expensive noise gate and a few mods by the sounds of it. (will re-iterate, that i do want to hear it under proper conditions and proper players fingers, but its price tag for what i see is a turn off for the interest)
ok, lets give it another perspective. $3000 cdn can get me a std edition JP2C. Its more expensive than pretty much every other boogie amp
1000$ cdn can get you a 5150/6505 + a XXX + a peavy cab on the used market. Add 100$ for a noise gate and that will give you what i hear from the demo if you get a stereo peavy cab...
I just simply don't understand the reasoning behind the marketing position atleast in canada
First of all, you're still comparing new price to used price. In today's market, just about all non-boutique amps have horrible resale value, which itself makes up a big part of the discrepancy. With 3 channels including a good clean channel, and footswitchable boost, a more fair comparison is between a
new Invective and a
new 5150III, in which case the price is pretty competitive, in the US at least. If you consider that the Peavey actually has more switchability, and is made in the US, it's actually not a bad deal at all.
3000$ cdn for a Standard Ed. JP2C IS the new price. a Mk.V with all the bells and whistles just under 2800$ Canadian... again ALL NEW.
ok, so you want new options... new 6505 1200$ CDN. 6505+ 1350$ new, 6535+ 1590$ new. new Invective ~$3000 unless the guy that gave me the price included the cab when i asked about the head specifically
can't remember if the non + has a foot-switchable crunch switch, but i know the last two do.
the reason USED is still a concern here, it due to this same basic package being sold since what 92/93? there are SOOO MANY of these bloody amps that have been sold and are available on the used market. some under slightly different guises
as for the 5153 comparison, which version? as i see most (not all )but most V.1 head owners looking to sell for the better featured 50W version if they are still into the amp. first two channels on both amps sound entirely different while the lead channel shares the initial 5150 lead channel with tweaks. and if you are looking for the amp purely for the lead channel which the vast majority will be looking at then the old amps will still be an option simply on value. this new amp isn't offering ENOUGH over what the old ones offer. kinda gives me the vibe of the 3120 amp they had for a few years re-branded and maybe slightly tweaked. correct me if i'm wrong but they were in the range of the 6535+'s price.
where its made is pretty irrelevant, one machine vs another machine, the machines are VERY likely from the same places. where the person is located doing the finishing work doesn't dictate the quality of the worker.
what I'm saying, in the price range there are MUCH better options for versatility, and there are MANY MANY options for the aggressiveness. be it boogie, PRS, Randalls (the Fortin ones)
Like i said i still do want to hear a Proper review. but the price tag that mirrors another posters inquired price, and having it sound like something you can get for much less NEW or USED in this basic form doesn't scream deal to me, Unless I was a Periphery fan.
Still sounds like a 5150/6505 to me, less XXX sounding under Misha's hands.
