Ok...I'll be the asshole...

The whole "study with a star" comes off as incredibly pretentious.

I've met you a few times, and the name seems quite incongruous with your personality; you may want to rethink your branding.

WTF is your problem? I actually think it's nice of him to take the time to share some of his playing wisdom with a lot of us weekend warriors. His lessons might not be for everyone, but no one is making you take them. What's your angle?

No angle, just an opinion.

To ME, the name is off putting; figured some others may share that opinion, and it could hurt his business

I never said that Pete kicked puppies, or clubbed baby seals; nor did I say anything about his ability to play, or teach.

I was offering honest feedback; nothing more, nothing less.

You oughta visit the actual site once and see that it's not really his personal ego-trip. Just a site he's a part of with a bunch of other peeps! Dug the lesson, though the last 30 seconds made me feel like far less of a man.

Great stuff Mr. Thorn ! I have been playing for 30 years and we all need a blues box breaker every few months. I also like that the lesson lends itself to fluid playing in multiple octaves and has a flow to it. I have chops but have a tendency to " stutter" when I play so to speak where I am not clear in my mind where I want to go and then I hit some clams in my phrasing.

Definetly going to check out the sight.

I thought everything was very cool and don't understand the "controversy" over the site name. Thanks for taking the time to post, Pete.

Thanks Pete... for the cool lesson and the opportunity to learn more from you. I'm sure I don't have to tell you to ignore the d*uche style comment a few posts above. Hiding behind a screen name seems to bring those types out of their moms basements.

Enough with the sanctimonious crap dude, You obviously havent been around long enough because if you were, you would know that Josh is far from being a douche or making BS statments. Im pretty sure Pete knew where Josh was coming from and that it didnt ruffle his feathers nearly as much as it did some of you here...sheesh...

Truthfully, when I saw the " Study With A Star " site name, I thought the same thing as Josh. I thought " Wow, thats totally out of character for Pete " because it does come off a bit pretentious and Pete has NEVER acted like that. Then I went to the site and lo and behold, its not a dedicated Pete Thorn Site but a collection of players and then it made sense.

Ive only met Pete once at a gig that he did here in NYC and he was the same cool laid back humble dude that he is here on the forums. I think that its great that hes doing this, its long over due IMO...

Rock on Pete!!!

Pull aside your thong, and wipe the sand from your Cooter; if the day comes that I can't give my honest opinion on rig-talk, then I have no interest in posting.

You don't like my opinion? No problem; don't read my posts.

The amusing thing is that if Yngwie Fucking (yes, you can type that here) Malmsteen came out with a site that was called "study with a star" the pictures of him clutching a jelly donut, and the cries of "arrogant, fat, fuck", would be all over the place...bet on that shit.

To be perfectly fucking clear- I think Pete is a good guy, and a good player.

The name of the site struck me as off putting...thought it might be off putting to others...thought it may hurt his business, and didn't represent his actual attitude/demeanor....mentioned it in a direct manner....that's all.

edited for those with comprehension issues :D

I wonder how many guys from TGP will pay $125 to have a 50 minute debate on whether Eddie's plexi was stock? :D

Glad someone said it. I'm trying to cut back on bothering with this stuff but it was like an itch that wouldn't go away....

Before even MORE people jump on the "Pete Thorn Defense Wagon," read jcj's post above that I quoted. It seems a lot of people are just skimming his posts and immediately think he is attacking Pete. I read his posts, and he is NOT attacking him at all, and is just some personal feedback on the name of the site and not Pete, his character or playing abilities, or anyone else for that matter!

Thanks for the quick little lesson!

Hope you dig! I'm going to be doing a bunch of these 5 Minute Lessons over the next little while:

I dig! Very cool.

This is the stuff that put Rig Talk on the map. Very generous to post this stuff.

Hi guys,

Sorry I missed out on some of this thread and the controversy over the name of the "studywithastar" site, etc, I've had a hell of a week with some family things etc and have been kind of out of it.

Anyways, ya, as you can see if you go there- it's not my site. I just work there, haha :)

It actually wouldn't have been my 1st pick name-wise either. I get it. The guys that started it are great dudes though, and hey, you can't call it "studywithaguywhohappenstoplaywithastar.com haha!!

Anyways, thanks for the kind words and your interest- ill be posting more 5 minute lessons soon!

^ You are a star in my book Pete!! You play better than many of the "so called stars" & your demo vids are the best out there bar none.

Rock on bro!!

Think some people may have missed this; "study with a star" is a site with several guitarists teaching lessons in various styles, and not Pete's own website.

Pete-awesome lesson  Reminds me of music school. Those were the days!
