Hey Pete. Do you mind taking a pic of your Bogner 1x12 w/ SM57 / Heil PR30 mic'ed up? Just curious how you are using both the SM57 / PR30 for mic'ing. Never heard of the PR30, and I'm quite intrigued. Right now, I mic up my cabinets w/ 2 SM57s and would be interested to see how a PR30 might help with things.

Love to hear your opinions here w/ micing up the Bogner 1x12.

Thanks,
Eric

Hey Eric,

Just point them right towards the speaker, pretty much right up on the grille, and pint them at where the dust cap meets the cone... then move them to taste, a bit more towards the edge of the cone if you want darker.

You can also try pointing one directly at the dust cap, dead center, then have one more towards the edge of the cone and maybe angled a bit off axis.

important that the mics are the same distance from the cab- otherwise you get phase issues.

The Heil is cool, it's a bigger sound than the 57- the 57 gets the meat of the sound, and the heil has more open top end and bigger lows I think. So they blend nice. I used to use a ribbon and a 57 but the ribbon is figure 8 and picks up too much from the back in my iso closet situation which s far from high tech, I'm amazed it sounds as good as it does.

Thanks a lot Pete. I'm using the 2 57s w/ 1 on the dust cap, and one pointed a bit off axis right now, and that has worked pretty well. I'm gonna pickup up a Heil PR30, and try what you described this weekend. I agree on the tone man, your recorded tone has always been very good on the clips I've heard. Definitely very interested in the PR30. I'd like to get a bit more highs / lows from my standard SM57 recorded tones. I've tried other mics (Royer R121 included) but always went back to the SM57 as it works the best for me in my applications. If the PR30 is similar to a SM57, but with the highs and lows accentuated a bit more, I think it will be a perfect mic to blend.

Thanks again....and it was awesome to meet you at Tone Merchant's. Made the change on the Suhr T you recommended...changed out to the vintage saddles!

Sounds awesome man, I cant wait to get my hand-wired 100!!

sounds like it'll be badass!!! Is it an SE+ and a PT in one?

Lead tone with the tele is BAD ASS, also the pickups if they are suhr and 13k, they are probably SSH's since they look covered.

I'm nearly positive they are the SSH+ and SSV's.

Eric

just for the record-

the tone pete dialed in at tone merchants was choice and YT is not doing full justice to just how sparkly and perfectly marshall this thing sounds, as in the good older AND newer marshall amps you hunt for.

I'm hoping so, I talked to John for a while about and I think he knows exactly what I'm goin for. Basically a custom SE+/PT version of the Handwired head.

Cool video!! I really liked the amp I heard at the ampfest (SE100 and PT100)
Both sounded really nice.
