Pete Thorn demos the Friedman Jose amp

I usually like Pete's demos, especially some of his deep dives. He's absolutely a shill, but he's a great player and really knowledgeable.

Having said that, I'm actually a little disappointed in this one. Kinda seems like he's just learning the amp, doesn't really quite understand how it all works. It just seems a little short of his typical standards. And how many edits can you fit in one sentence?

Personally, I love the amp! I've heard better demos, though, and this one isn't that bad.

I like Pete. He’s a total sales guy, but he is completely upfront about that and doesn’t hide it at all, he’s big enough in the industry that he doesn’t have to review anything he doesn’t like, so if something shows up on his channel in the first place, you can be pretty confident he does actually like it, and he knows gear and is entertaining.

His style and production are becoming less in-line with the kind of stuff that suits my ear personally these days, but he it’s still great most of the time if you want to get a technical handle on how a product works and what its capabilities are.

This one did feel a bit off though, yeah. He’s usually the guy who rattles off bright cap values and stuff like that from memory, but he didn’t really have that kind of technical info ready to go in this one. The way he went through the section about the two Presence controls kind of stuck out in particular. You would think a guy like him would be able to instantly tell exactly what was going on with the switch. Hope he’s doing alright.

Again, Dave should seriously consider injecting a little more of this raw aggression and bright attack into his other production amps.

Yup. I mean, it’s so easy, it’s already set up.

Take the existing lineup sans Plex and Jose, call it the Shaved line.

New raw brighter line is the Hairy line. Or the BE-VER.

Another demo where this amp sounds fantastic...Again, Dave should seriously consider injecting a little more of this raw aggression and bright attack into his other production amps.
Couldn’t agree with this more. Enough with the ‘polite’ Marshalls

Well, it's rumored that a 20-watt version is coming in the future. I initially liked the idea of a 50 watt version, but I'm not sure that would work well because the Jose doesn't have a thump circuit. I think having those 4 power tubes and the volume knob is enough to get the low end I would want, but 50-watts might make this less possible? If a 20 watt version hits the market, I'm curious to see if Dave adds a thump knob to it. Or, he could just make sure there's plenty of bass in the bass and volume knobs. I doubt there will be an IRJose because it sounds like it's too complex to fit into one of those pedals.

I dug Pete’s demo.
That is a killer sounding amp.
However, I’m siding with y’all who think it was a bit “too polite”.
This will be the video that convinced me to buy a Friedman “Jose”.

I really liked the tones in Pete's video. This video is also a great one with completely different playing and tone.

I was kind of surprised Ola got it to sound like that.

I've seen some showing up on the used market for $3300. I still think it's wiser to buy new from Dave because of the warranty. I'm curious what is the main reason people let them go.

I was surprised by that video myself...Amp was sounding very "metal" there. Was wondering if there was a boost involved.

Probably not any boost being used, but I'm sure he's got some high output pickups. Some people have warned that the Jose doesn't give you lots of gain if you're using low output PAFs.

Yup had one for a weekend. Very cool amp and very well laid out features. Found myself needing to slam the front end with a SD-1.

I ended up selling it back to the guy I bought it from for a Ground Zero Hellion V2, which is a more modern Marshall.

They're night and day differnt amps, so no comparison here. I'd be tempted to grab another Jose and run it with other speakers.

BTW I felt Pete did the amp justice and ran through all the features very methodically. When I had it, I felt the Jose sounded too polite.

I wish it were a little more open sounding and the top-end wasn't so polished off. It had me fighting it to give up pinch harmonics.

This is generally the most common complaint about the Friedman signature sound...They tend to present at somewhat dark, and "produced" sounding and yes "too polite" is a term often used as well. That said, from the clips I have heard, the Jose model seems to be the most organic and "raw" sounding in the Friedman line.
