I currently have rebel yells in my les Paul standard 50’s. They are a bit bright, hollow, and don’t have enough output and thickness for this particular guitar. The guitar is bright and very light weight for a les Paul.

I was thinking about picking up a set of Aldrich pickups or Friedman triple d. Has anyone compared the pickups? Using it mainly with a Friedman be 100 deluxe.

EVH Wolfgangs are a solid choice too. Full sounding without booming bass or piercing highs. Nice cleans too. I have both the Rebels and EVHs, I get what you are explaining.

The EVHs aren't as high output or aggressive sounding as the Aldridge or JB though.

Seymour Duncan JB SH-4 or Distortion SH-6 in the bridge is usually my preference.

Always JB in a Les Paul.

Jesus christ on a crutch it is the only thing I know.

59 or Jazz in the neck.
While I know it's common, I respectfully disagree.

The '59 can typically be very boomy and scooped in a Les Paul and my experience with the Jazz is that it's too sterile and clean.
2 Duncans that I prefer as neck pickups: Pearly Gates Neck and SH-12 Screamin' Demon.
But, the DiMarzio 36th Anniv PAF DP103 and the Air Norton are awesome in a Les Paul's neck pos. as well. With great coil-split tones to boot.

Had the JB in Les Pauls on and off, and while it does wonders in some, its low-end can be too loose in others. The DiMarzio Norton fixes that. Still those great harmonics and sizzling (not harsh) high end, but the low-end is much tighter and punchier than the JB.
For more lows, either look at the Super Distortion, AT-1 or Duncan SH-14 Custom 5. All work great in a Les Paul, IME.

For a les paul, you want Jim Wagner @mniel8195

depending on your style, darkburst, godwood, ironman, crossroads, etc.

the friedmans sound great in super strats - and theyre meant to. But jim wagner is the MAN when it comes to hbs for gibson style and scale length instruments.

I'm curious what ends up doing the trick for you. I have a Goldtop that is decently light, and seems especially bright. I still haven't gotten it worked out yet, and I've tried all sorts of pickups:

• Gibson Classic 57+ (not bad, but kinda muddy)
• Suhr Aldrich (seemed like it was just "too much" somehow. Like it was unnaturally pushed in the lows, and it felt too stiff)
• DiMarzio Super Distortion (seemed congested / cluttered in the mids, though it was a step in the right direction in terms of EQ)
• DiMarzio Transition (seemed like a less congested Super Distortion)
• Oil City Riot Act (fantastic clarity, but it did nothing to help the situation in terms of the guitar's brightness. Would probably sound killer in a more balanced guitar. Or maybe even one that is on the darker side of things)

And don't even get me started on the neck position...

Maybe try 300K pots

For high Gain In one of my R9's I Have the BKP Nailbomb with Alinco Magnets, Its pretty good. Custom Buckers are great especially the wildwood Customs if you can get them, Also just heard the Pearly Gates Duncans in a R8 i was surprised How Nice they sounded with some gain on them. Very chewy and harmonics were leaping off the board.

If you're into older ZZ Top tones, SD Pearly Gates Billy Gibbons Signature pups are great. Perfectly balanced.

Man the Aldrich set is godly in my les paul, but that’s just me.such an amazing pickup set, one of the best I’ve ever used.
