the Tremonti neck Pickup is a PRS 7 which is what you have now in your SC so I wouldn't bother switching it for one, i found that pickup in the Tremonti I had to be a bit woolly at volume so something brighter might be a good fit
The Tremonti Bass pickup is a Dragon II Bass, not a #7. Mark discussed his pickup selection for his signature guitar during several interviews. He designed the bridge pickup from the ground up with PRS, but he liked the sound of the Dragon II Bass on the PRS McCarty he played, so he used that one for the neck position of his guitar.

i don't want to get into a debate about it because honestly i don't know, but from everything i read on BAM back in the day the Tremonti bass is a 7, and McCartys have McCarty pickups.

anyway i didn't like the bass pickup in thenTremonti i had, whatever it was
Well, since you are actually continuing the debate, I should set the record straight.

I was involved in many of the Tremonti discussions on BaM (Birds and Moons). It was never credibly asserted by anyone on BaM that the Tremonti Bass pickup was a #7. On the contrary, it was widely known there that Mark redesigned the bridge pickup, but used an existing PRS pickup for the bass (the Dragon II), which was in a McCarty guitar that he was playing.

I've owned many Tremonti I guitars (the original, with a hardtail and a wide/fat neck). The Tremonti II came out after the lawsuit, and they had a wide/thin neck and a trem. I had a very early Tremonti sig model, and it actually had a "Dragon II" sticker on the back of the neck pickup. I contacted PRS about this, and they confirmed that it was because they were using Dragon II's in the Tremoni neck position, and at that early stage, they hadn't received the stickers yet for the Tremonti bass pickups.

Also, some early McCarty guitars came with Dragon pickups. The PRS website has the details.

It turns out I had a PRS Dragon I pickup sitting around my jam room. It was in my CE22 and I swapped it out a few months ago for a Dimarzio d-activator, not even realizing why it was until I looked at the bottom today. It sounded great in my CE22, I just wanted to try the Dimarzio as it was gifted to me and I wound up really liking it too. The Dragon's in my singlecut now and when I get home I'll have a chance to run it through an amp to see if I like it.

I had a CE-22 as well (bought from forumite MatrixClaw)
dragons are fine
I just find the bridge pickup way too trebly and still could use a little more string separation under high gain
bkp similar would be the emerald, but brightest bkps have a nicer top end
I also had the dragon in a '96 mccarty
it was hotter than the mccarty pickup, but quite thin in comparison
best match was the bkp riff raff
that guitar sounded magical with it

Anderson H2+ and H1, they won't break the bank and will sound killer ! I also do like the JB and Jazz, have them in a les Paul and they are great.

I'm strongly in agreement on the Anderson pickups. I've got a Drop Top with these in it and have never felt short on gain and tonal variety.

I have a JB in my pre-lawsuit SC and it's frickin amazing. My #1 tone guitar.

I found my Singlecut to be too dark with the PRS #7. In the little I've played with the Dragon in there I think it's a good match. I'm gonna give it some time to decide whether or not I really like it before trying something else.

I will add..

While I was in deciding on which pickup..and ended up with the BKP Rebel Yell
The other serious contenders I was torn between we're:

- MCP Detroiter
- Suhr Aldrich

I think most of the mentioned pickups are Alnico V's which give you plenty of detail, however in a single cut guitar there's something special that comes to life when paired with an Alnico II or hot Alnico II paf style pickup.

Depends on YOUR music style..
More contemporary I'd go with any listed above, all great pups
More classic/vintagey I'd go alnico II paf style

the singlecut seems to sound darker than the two mccarties I had
I briefly played a friends SC with dimarzio 36th ann pafs through a soldano sl60
it sounded amazing, but darkish and very bass heavy
he thought that the bk black dog was too dark fo rhythms, the bk cold sweat was too hot and the bk vhii was also too punchy and bass heavy
he ended up going back to the stock #7, but he's still looking for something else
I bet they all sounded pretty good, including the stock pup, but he's plugging such a great guitar through some crappy 15w solid state amp, like a crate or something

I'd probaly put riff raffs or mules to open things up, anyway

and thus, although it is unfairly fashionable to hate on EMG, the 57/66 is an absolute beautiful monster of a pickup.
the 57/66 setup in my PRS absolutely soars with clarity and power. this guitar, which is just an se, amazes my buddies, it sounds great

Nothing wrong with EMG’s, it just depends on the “fashion trends” of the day. :D

You could keep it all PRS and go with a Tremonti, they are great high gainers
Yep. Fantastic pickup. I love my Tremonti guitars and for years went various pups, notably the 500T, which I love in my Pauls. About a year ago I put the stock Tremonti back in my favorite PRS and I was like WTF? Are you kidding me, it's perfect. What the hell was I thinking. All this time and wasted money dropping in pups and the stock one was the best all along. Classic case of second guessing yourself or just flat over thinking. I can't put that guitar down. Kicking myself because it and my old LP standard have been my main guitars for well over a decade and this whole time I could and should have just kept the PRS stock. Lord.

The Tremonti is a great metal pick up and it doesn't get near enough love. (Except in this thread apparently!) That and the Afwayu are my favorite high output passives right now.
