Awesome! And good luck with the new band! I have to say, only being in one at the moment is enough for me. Multiples was getting CRAZY for a while
Thanks Randy!

I'm only in multiple bands because everyone else has other projects going on and the band Im in with them always seems to take the back seat. I was getting tired of waiting for gigs and Instead of dropping the band, I landed this one and it seems as if it's going to pay off

I was never a fan of Ash. I've been hit or miss on Alder as well though. I guess i like the basswood/maple combination.

I am a fan of ash wood but after getting familiar with the wood over the years it has it's plusses and minuses. Ive had hits or misses with Alder as well and stayed away from it for a while but the ironic thing is that the 3 best sounding guitars ive had over the years were made of Alder. I guess its like everything else...you either get a good sounding piece of wood or you don't lol. My GMW's sound great for the VH thing but they can be a bit bright and they definitely do not have the cut that this Charvel has and some of the notes get washed when you play in the upper register...not so with the Charvel.

Basswood = Ibanez :D

Go tell that to John Suhr and Tom Anderson. Ibeenhad used mystery wood and called it basswood.

Good luck with the new band, Ralph.

You rock the hardest anyway :D

btw: I had a look at those axes last week in a shop, they look indeed nice, loved the neck.
I don't get why they will ship the HSS with a toggle though, thats - ahem - absurd :D

Thanks Olaf!!!

The necks are great on these and I hate the toggle as well lol :D

I like the way your Wayne guitar sounds. That's Alder right?

Yes and the Charvel is extremely similar in tone!

1987 = JEM with basswood :gethim: Before that who knows though :scared: From what I have read Ibanez was the first to use basswood and had issues finding the correct sized blanks at first as basswood was not used for guitars.

Anyone have a an 80s TA that was basswood? Would be cool to know how it was started.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm willing to try anything and maybe I'll give the EVO2 a shot. With that said man o man is that tonezone bass heavy LMAO!!

I liked the feel of the output that the tonezone has but YES it is way too bass heavy. Replaced it with a JB and changed the volume pot to 250k and loved the change; that said I'm looking forward to hearing what pup you decide on.

cool man, glad it's working for ya! I've developed some recent love for alder strat bodies myself

I am going to install a 5 way superswitch and just use some sawdust and glue to patch the hole and match the best I can

or just get a balsa dowel so the wood types match.

You have a point, the mother company is fender.

Cool! I liked that guitar. One of these days I will need to give a Charvel a try. I tried one back in the good ol' 80s and really liked it. It was way above my abilities at the time so I would love to try one now that I can somewhat hold my own.

It's funny that you mentioned the JB's because sometimes I feel as if the newer ones have to much bass unless you use a 250k pot!
Now the problem I face is that I have to many pickup choices to use. I want a pickup that sounds killer dirty and that splits well for cleans

I think that you will love the new porduction Charvel and the great thing is that if you decide to get one it wont break the bank!!

Still digging your AxeFX? I finally got one and it's a cool unit. It's IMHO not the end all be all amp killer but a very impressive unit.

Wassup!

Yup, I'm still loving the Axe-fx and I agree that it's a cool unit!
With that said I don't think anything is the end all be all because most of us have the tendency to change our tonal preferances from time to time but the Axe-FX does allow you to get a wide palette of tones and I thinkg it's an amazing device. I'm still learning how use the thing and that's saying something since Ive had it for a long time now.

Hope all is well

Ralph, congrats on the new band. I'm in the same situation, seems like all the bands I get in are 'side projects' for other guys. Can drive ya crazy!

Yeah I agree there isn't end all be all for the very reason you mentioned and that's one of the positives I like about it... "the wide palette".

Live are you still running it into a power amp and cab or have you gone all monitors?

All's going well here thanks for asking.

I still prefer to run the Axe through a poweramp and speakers. Im not as anti going direct as I once was but I find that running it through a cab works for me

Yeah I prefer it that way as well for playing in a band. Direct is cool as well with those Redwirez. I like those a lot for recording direct and I did run it into some PA wedges and was surprised that it sounded as good as it did. Still wary of it though..... it will take me doing a good bit of experimenting with that to get comfortable going that route.

What power amp are you using?
