Ralph, congrats on the new band. I'm in the same situation, seems like all the bands I get in are 'side projects' for other guys. Can drive ya crazy!

Pete
Thanks Pete!!

How the heck did I miss this?
With that said, the 1st band situation was/is definitely a side project for them but I always knew that going in. The plus side is that the guys I'm working with are heavily networked and just being able to play with them has landed me this gig plus I have a few more things comming up that are pretty top shelf. It can be frustrating but I'm in a great place now. I also really love the guys I'm working with in both bands, so even if we don't play many shows with the 1st band, id never quit because they are great guys

Still digging your AxeFX? I finally got one and it's a cool unit. It's IMHO not the end all be all amp killer but a very impressive unit.
Wassup!

Yup, I'm still loving the Axe-fx and I agree that it's a cool unit!
With that said I don't think anything is the end all be all because most of us have the tendency to change our tonal preferances from time to time but the Axe-FX does allow you to get a wide palette of tones and I thinkg it's an amazing device. I'm still learning how use the thing and that's saying something since Ive had it for a long time now.

Hope all is well

Yeah I agree there isn't end all be all for the very reason you mentioned and that's one of the positives I like about it... "the wide palette".

Live are you still running it into a power amp and cab or have you gone all monitors?

All's going well here thanks for asking.

I still prefer to run the Axe through a poweramp and speakers. Im not as anti going direct as I once was but I find that running it through a cab works for me

Yeah I prefer it that way as well for playing in a band. Direct is cool as well with those Redwirez. I like those a lot for recording direct and I did run it into some PA wedges and was surprised that it sounded as good as it did. Still wary of it though..... it will take me doing a good bit of experimenting with that to get comfortable going that route.

What power amp are you using?

You are going to laugh at me but ive never even tried direct yet   I'm going to make it a point to try it soon.
I started out using a Boogie 2:90 poweramp but it just made my rack to heavy to carry around, so I replaced it with a carvin 1500 watt poweramp that weighs 16lbs :D
Thanks to Kage, I had the priveledge to a/b a carvin poweramp with my 2:90 side by side through the same cab and after a few tweaks even though there is a slight difference, it wasn't enough for me to not make the switch. I used it last night at the rehersal and it killed.

The direct thing can be cool but it can also be a balck hole of trying IR's. :scared:

I need to get a higher wattage solid state power amp to put in a rack to use it with. I'll look into those. Thanks!

Ralph,
I'm glad you like the guitar. I thought you would. I guess what the best thing about them is you can throw them in a gig bag and carry them all over the place and not worry about them too much because they really aren't that expensive. Then when you pull them out and play them, the tone and the playability doesn't match the "beat on it, don't worry about it" mentality you get because of what it cost you.

Oh yeah...... alder rules.

New black one, modified of course, neck feels 20 years old on this one.

That black one is HAWT :inlove:

The Dalai Lama himself with the flowing robes would have that in his golf bag.

Looks alot like my GMW

Nice donbarzini  See? I told you the necks weren't made of white formica. :D

I dont understand why if the guitar sounds great and cuts like glass, why do you want to change the pickup? Just curious. (I like the TZ a lot)

I love my Charvel style 1. I got in on the first lot to come to the UK and it is just perfect for what I play. I change the bridge pickup alot though and im still not 100% happy with what I have in there.

I don't really like the TZ pickup. I had one before and it did the same thing to my sound(added a ton of bass) I had to EQ the hell out of my main sound in order to dial out the bass coming from the pickup.

This place is like a superstrat bacteria petri dish

...I've been liking the tuning stability a lot on my sl2h lately, gonna take it to practice tonight

Is the neck finished?

It looks pretty bare (and pasty). I'm thinking a few years of work will make that fretboard look like EVH's Frankie neck at some point.

I'm soooo tempted to pull the trigger but I REALLY dont need another trem guitar.

No kidding but I have been looking hard at these, I like them plenty and I wouldn't mind a "fast" guitar.
Has anybody looked under the pickguard of the So-Cal 1-2H model (dual bucker strat)? Is it routed for H-H or H-S-H?
If I get one, it would be one of those but I'd convert it to HSH or SSH. I really dig the Candy Tangerine and Candy Plum with the maple necks but I guess they are getting harder to find as they are from early batches.

Bastards!!! I want one too! :gethim:  :gethim:

Ralph, I don't know how much output you want in your bridge pickup, but the El Prez in the bridge of my alder 50th Anni Deluxe sounds ridiculously awesome. It puts my other guitars to shame. The only guitar I have that sounds as unique is my Billy Bo. All I'm saying is, you know who to call.

I had mine set up a month or so ago and the guy oiled the neck and it gave it a very nice slight tint. I believe they are lightly oiled stock. Mine felt like bare wood when I got it.

What would be a good oil to keep on hand to rub the neck down with on occasion?

The neck is finished with a light clear coat or wax. The only way it would look like an EVH neck is if you scrape the neck with some 0000 steal wool to remove some of the coating

Sup Bro!! Barzini answered your question. It's routed for the hsh and I will more then likely switch to that setup later on but you know how that goes lol! With that said, they are going to be tougher and tougher to get new so if you want one id think about getting one quick or else find one used!!
