After hearing a bunch of different types of woods, I think that this one is my favorite for bass. Last night, we were tracking some stuff with a new bass player. He brought over an Ibanez and it sounded awesome! It fit perfectly in the mix even just through a DI(Great River). The last guy two guys had a P Bass(alder) and a Schecter(basswod). My favorite bass player in the band also had an Ibanez and I always loved his tone. And now I know why. It was actually the same model but a 5-string. When I upgrade my bass, I know exactly what I'm going to get.

I have the SR305 5 string with Agathis sp?? body wood and the bass sounds great, no complaints here. I wish that the wife had bought the BRB series though, love that bass and it sounds huge.

Hmm, I've never heard of that wood. I'm sure they'll have one in the stores that I can check out. Another wood that I like for bass is bubinga. That one sounds great too although it's more lower mids and bass.

The 300 series and lower for SR stuff is Agathis, I have no clue what that is   The Sam Ash in New HAven has some killer Ibanez basses discounted and some nice used ones, some killer BRB basses with Bubinga as well :)

I had a SR800 SoundGear fretless 4-string in the early '90s that I purchased in Connecticut. Thin neck, great tone, balance, weight and playability. Not sure of the wood though? My guess it was probably basswood; mine was gloss black, rosewood fretboard no fret markers - I actually stained the fretboard ebony to make it real dark - which looked great to me and others who saw it. Sold it in the mid '90s when I was living in South Florida - maybe someone here has it now? No pics, but that was a very nice bass all-around especially for what I remember being a comparatively low price at the time, it was my first fretless so I didn't want to spend too much as they are often more difficult to resell.
