I'll let you in on a secret. Kiss after 1979 sucks.I get the "meat and potatoes" description of the final product, it's just i'm not convinced they've done very much actual recording as musicians since the late 70s at the least

I can totally believe that. It's just everything that came after, that's the issue. Notice how every single lead guitar player that has been in the band since Ace has sued for songwriting credit at some point? It's pretty obvious that Kiss has been a brand more than a band since at least that time period.

Well Dan, after Ace and Peter left, the revolving door of guitarists and musicians from some of the solo albums was pretty well known, even then. It was also pretty well known some of the Kiss Alive II stuff wasn't Ace. That's quite a long way from "They didn't write their own songs or play their own instruments". Other than your Destroyer revelation ( on one of the crappiest songs Kiss had ever recorded up to that point I'll add) about the solo on Sweet Pain, none of the other stuff on that list rises to that claim, let's say from Love Gun back to the beginning. And Kiss's best songs, things like She, 100,000 Years, Black Diamond, Cold Gin, Got To Choose, Shock Me, etc. are all solid bangers man. Written by Gene and Paul with an Ace song here or there.Next time i need to be sure were talking about original Recipe
Speaking of which. The solo in Shock Me from Alive II is bad ass. Ace could play back then when he wasn't hammered. And the basslines in songs like Got To Choose and Goin' Blind, while not Jaco level virtuoso shit was definitely pretty creative rock and roll bass. Gene's voice back then was so bad ass too.

Yeah, that's what I thought also. I was into Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, etc., so when the Kiss Klowns showed up, I died laughing, it sounded like music for 7 year olds.
