Looking to go a Wet/Dry rig:

I have a VHT 2/90/2 but that seems to be "overkill"

I was thinking a smaller Power amp...Ideas?

SS or Tube?

Set up is AMP - DI to Gmajor to power amp to marshall 4x12 stereo cab

This may sound silly, but I've been using an Electro-Harmonix 44 Magnum for my W/D and it's been great. I have a Mesa 2:90 that's a bit of overkill for W/D since normally the wet side doesn't really have to be super loud. The 44 is actually pretty killer on it's own as a back up, but for W/D it's been great!

I have an old Carvin FET 1000 that I've been saving for W/D for awhile now. I got it for $200 on ebay. 1000 Watts bridged mono at 8 ohms.

I tried W/D using the line-out on my EVH 5153 into my eventide timefactor and into the Carvin and I couldn't seem to get the wet side to be very loud. I'm thinking I need to find something to boost the signal. We'll see how it goes with the line out on CCV when it gets here.

You say 'overkill' like it's a bad thing

2/90/2 user here... Overkill goooooooood!!

Mo

By Overkill I mean.... just to much amp for just the delay and a bit of Chorus....
I think the VHT is a great amp...

i've used:
rivera tbr-1
marshall 50 50
mesa 290
peavey ss 300wps
peavey classic 50 50 tube
crate power block
various amps (ampeg v4, mesa mark III, mojave coyote, eggie tol 100 return)
tech 21 power engine

for overall power amp TONE sake and functionality, the best in my book was the mesa 395 i owned, then sold to zachman and he'll say the same

but for me now simplicity rules. hard to beat a tech 21 power engine...powered guitar speaker, especially since i replaced the stock speak with scumback. love to try the mesa tube answer to that though..the satellite 60, if i could ever find one.
and for the money and size, the powerblock is ridiculously cool for a stereo power amp.
