I recently bought one off of Craigslist for $300. I did a couple of simple mods to tone down the gain on Crunch and Ultra channels and retubed with EL34's and it is a Hard Rock Monster now. If you're careful with the resonance and the active EQ, it's very Marshall like. Me likee!

$300 is a great deal. I love mine. I had 2 at one point. I run 6L6's in mine. I plan on getting the Crunch and Ultra channels modded to XXX specs.

This one came with 6L6's but I prefer the sound of 34's.

I only wish it had a solo boost function, but that's what I use the Ultra channel for.

Try putting a patch cable in the FX loop and turning the loop send and return levels all the way up. It makes the JSX a lot fuller

I've also found that just VOLUME makes it sound a lot fuller.

Are used to crank the master volume and then use individual channel volume.

Actually, I use the clean volume as the reference. I find that it sounds better with a little hair on it, so I run it at about half and then adjust the Crunch and Ultra to balance with that and use the master for the room.

I recently tried to sell my combo (not here), just because I didn't feel like I needed three amps. I had it up for a decent price for a while and it still wouldn't move. Now, I've decided that I'm better off just keeping it. I never thought it was a bad amp anyways. I really do believe it's a sleeper amp for the current prices they go for. $300 is a fantastic price for what you get. I actually use EL34's in mine as well, even though most seem to prefer 6L6's or KT77's. Congrats on your purchase.

I know the EL34's and V30's help, but this thing really satisfies my Hot Rodded Marshall lust. Maybe it's because I play in a band and in the heat of a solo section, or the fact that it's blended with the rest of the band, I don't seem to miss my old faithful JCM-800/OD pedal of the day combination.

I liked the one i played but im done with Carvin/Peavey products, can't give that shit away.

-I have a soft spot for all the old PEAVEY high gain amps,-(the VTM series are my favorite)- what they all need is a bias adjustment, they come biased ice cold from the factory, why?.... Who the hell knows, ... If you have a 34/6l6 switch on the back, running 6l6's, with the switch in the 34 position will get you close, but to really open these amps up a bias resistor change, its literally a night and day difference...

-I need to make this a sticky, I'm tired of mentioning it.

-rock on

Ive heard about the bias mod, but truthfully, it sounds good as is.
