Preset switching latency

Is there any way to reduce the latency when switching presets via midi? It’s noticeable and I’m not sure if that’s normal?
I’m using PC messages - would changing parameters with CC messages be ‘quicker’?
 
In fact I’ve just tried a lot of Midi CC and PC changes individually. There is enough latency in the changes that I couldn’t imagine being able to use this live - very frustrating. Is this normal behaviour?
