Wow, really - could you link that thread?

Their marketing states "Pure, all-tube, analog signal path" so something isn't adding up.
The FX are digital, so the signal has to go through that between the pre and power amp, as if you had a FX processor in the loop. And afaik it’s always going through that unit. It’s in a Rig-Talk thread somewhere where he addressed a bunch of questions like this. I believe the marketing is meant to suggest there’s no amp modeling, at least that’s how I understood it.

Bottom line.
When it comes down to end of the Earth and you need one amp that can ward of the end of times..
Diezel Herbert.
Talk all the poop, no mids blah blah, and
suddenly we’re in a room and the mids are so blistering and the punch from the sheer power of SIX KT77’s…it’s fire in the ears!
Noise floor also, when your up on those high gain pressures it can be a static shower..
With the Herbert, all you hear is a silence.. -INCOMING!
Word.

VHX gutshot for anyone interested.

I found this to be my favorite Diezel too. I think some just see the digital interface and view it as less authentic, but the sound and punch are solid, and you can't beat the flexibility. My VH4s and Herberts just seemed too one dimensional after this.

You may already have a midi, but if not, it pairs well with the Diezel Columbus. Really expands your options and functionality. Moves it close to Fractal territory. They're a little expensive new but pop up used from time to time around $300. Not cheap, but it adds so much.

How does the VHX compare to your VH4? Can you get your VHX to sound like it? I tried them side by side at Sweetwater but I didn’t have a lot of time with them. I thought the VHX sounded better. Curious since you have both if you think the VHX can capture the VH4

How do you use time based FX in the VHX? You can place them anywhere but I’m not sure which block is the best. Can someone share a screenshot of, say, where you put compression and delay?

Usually at the end. Reverb last, delay second to last. If I use those at all, it's only for cleans.

Thanks! What I can’t figure out is where “first” and “last” are in the blocks on the screen. With fractal, it’s clear. But I find the layout on the VHX confusing. The manual is skimpy and doesn’t tell you much. Wish Diezel would put out another video going through the options. The short video dialing in the Yes tone is very limited.

Just scroll to the right to get to the last black. The white block with the Diezel logo is supposed to be the amp itself. So the block before that is the pre-loop. Everything to the right of the white Diezel block is the digital FX loop, where you would normally place your effects. So closer to the white Diezel block is earlier in the FX chain, anything to the right of that comes after.

That’s perfect. Thanks!!
