Price check: Late 70’s Marshall 4x12 with blackback speakers

What the current value of a Marshall 4x12 with black back speakers (not sure if they are 25 or 30 watt) Cab has original revo casters too. My guess is $2,000+

Do the sides and back look just as clean? That's in fantastic shape from this angle.

Can't help on the price, but if the rest is just as clean that's a hell of a find.

I personally wouldn't pay more than $800 for any quality, loaded 4x12. Unless the speakers are some sort of collectible that I could resell on their own for more than the price of the cab. The cab itself isn't worth more than $400 to me. It's just a wood box. Bogner, Wizard, Marshall, Mesa, whatever... $800.

How much are used speakers worth? I've sold a bunch in the last couple of months and people won't pay more than $120 for most used speakers, again... unless they're a collectible of some sort. Blackbacks might go for a little more, but not worth the effort to me.

But if you can find someone to pay $2,000 count your blessings.

That looks like a 77-78 with the small check weave grill cloth. 79-80 had the large check open weave grey grill cloth. I have a 1979 1982 with the large open check grey cloth and I had a 1978 with the the small check tight interweave grey grill cloth with original cone 78 25 watter 75 HZ Blackbacks.

I listed my original 78, 25 watt Blackbacks in 2022 for $2,000 with no takers for about 6 months and a guy who really really wanted the 25 watter Blackbacks paid $1900.00 but he really had to have them. I just seen a 78 cab with 4- 55Hz Blackbacks listed for $1400.00 locally sit for the last 4-5 months even I hemmmed and hawwwed about it.

I'd say start at $1200 and go up from there, even stuff like this is sitting for a while these days, or go look at it start at 1200 and keep putting down $100 bills until he says yes.

Straight cabs seem to command more in price than slants.

I know the original revo casters sell for a lot as well. I figured the total package is worth around $1,500- $2,000. Before Covid I sold a clean blackback cab for $1800ish.

I’m just trying to gauge the market. Someone offered me $1,000 all in. Of course there is shipping involved. Shipping will be a few hundred. I think a local sale is likely the easiest and most profitable.

Yeah, I have turned down pretty good money for my '72 Hiwatt 4x12 because I don't want to ship it. It's been sitting local pickup only over a year.

Depends on how bad you want to get rid of it. I wouldn't let it go for less than $1500 but you have to have a buyer willing to pay $1500. The market of cash buyers has deteriorated for music equipment, that's just the sad reality of it.

The collectors are starting to unload even if they can find buyers. Let's face it... the younger generation isn't into tube amps and speaker cabinets.

I would not ship it but you may have better luck than I. I bought a 79 Marshall 1982B cabinet with original 12H-30 watter blackbacks to match my A cab from Ebay in the mid 2000's and that cabinet was slammed so hard by UPS that two of the magnets sheared off the back of the speakers. I ended up keeping the cabinet and selling the speaker frames for parts.

I list my gear for what I want to get for it (with reasonable offers);

if it's something I want to get rid of I'm more open to offers; if it's something I really don't want to sell, I'll keep it until I get my price.


I have a late '00s BC Rich Chuck Schuldiner Stealth, Made in Korea, for sale before BC Rich reissued them and killed the used prices; I decided to just keep it; besides, it's my only guitar with a X2N.

Please help me understand the not wanting to ship things mentality. There's an amp for sale in Nashville that I was thinking of buying, but the seller won't ship it. Why not?

You don't actually have to do anything. Just drop it off at FedEx or UPS. They will box it and ship it. And the buyer is paying, so it's not like you're losing any money.
