Anybody have any knowledge of the ease of use ? Does it run smoothly installed on a Macbook ? Is there any other software for the MacBook. I thought the Logic Pro was pretty interesting and it comes with alot of software. I am looking for something that is easier than Pro Tools, which I currently use with my pc.

IMHO, Pro Tools is easier than Logic for basic audio recording.

I agree, I started off with Logic Pro and really liked it. I then moved to Pro Tools to be able to use on multiple platforms and I think Pro Tools also is easier to use. Pro Tools will also run on the Mac book with a little tweaking of system settings, etc... The main thing is to get a external firewire drive for the projects as the HD's on the Mac books are 5400 RPM I believe.

They changed the interface quite a lot for version 8. That took me a while to get used to. Id used Logic Pro 7 for quite a while and found that easier to use. Might just be a familiarity thing though.

They both run absolutely fine on my Macbook Pro.

I find Logic quicker that Pro Tools. It seems to take a lot less time to get an idea down. The built in instruments/presets are great for this. That said, if you are a tweaker Pro Tools is probably better. I just dont have the attention span for it.

I have both, pro tools LE and Logic Express 8, and I like em both, but I've been using Logic exclusively for 6 months. I like it better.

By the way...Logic Express is the same as Logic Pro (just without the extra stuff, like jam packs, etc etc) If you don't really use all that stuff (like I do) just get L. Express, if you needed later, you can upgrade easily.

Thanks guys. I am looking to be able to compose very easly. I definately will be going with a Mac for sure.

im running logic pro 8 on a new imac 2.4ghz dual core with 3GB of RAM and a MOTU 896mkIII interface without a hiccup. as a former pro tools le user, it will take some time before im navigating through the program with ease, but im loving the logic experience thus far.

I found exactly the oppostie myself. Logic is a joy and very easy to use even after many years of Pro Tools...

I'm running a MacBook Pro that has a 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo Intel processor. I have 4 gigs of RAM. I run a Metric Halo ULN-2 w/ the 2D Card and +DSP license. Metric Halo provides a plug-in called Console Connect and it lets me use the Metric Halo console, which includes just about everything, within Logic. I can run all of my plug-ins at zero latency, which is freakin' awesome!

The only application that I use that is a RAM hog is Toontrack Superior 2.0, but I haven't crashed using it. I'm on OS X 10.5.5 and everything is running very smooth. Everything worked well in 10.5.4 as well.

Hey Steve,

How do you convert the AIFF files in Logic to a WAVE or MP3?

Funny how we all see differently. I think Logic is great, and intend on using it more in the future though. We are primarily a Pro Tools room where I work. Perhaps I've jsut gotten too comfortable:)

If I was buying first time, I would probably go with Logic just on the cost and being able to use whatever hardware you want, and all the extras Apple throws in. IMHO, it is the best bang for the buck pro audio app.

Hey Steve,

How do you convert the AIFF files in Logic to a WAVE or MP3?

The bounce function will do that.

Steve

Logic is very cool IMO - LE here on a MBP, 2.2 GHz, 2GB RAM - and a FW WD "Book" or whatever its called. Never crashed so far (even the cracked version I've used for some months to decide if I buy it).

What do you want to know? :) Did you get the e-mail MH sent out last night?

I'll talk about what I know about Console Connect and the 2D card.

Console Connect lets you use the MIO mixer as a plug-in inside your DAW. I use Logic 8, I just add the plug-in inside Logic and BAM! Then, you just route all of your channels via Firewire. I'm basically using the Metric Halo mixer in zero latency the box is doing all of the work, which isn't the case with the Logic mixer because the program is doing all of the work.

The 2D card with the +DSP license is really cool. There are about 16 different input characters that you can place all over the place to smooth out or dirty up the signal. It looks real good on the sound curves. I absolutely love the transformer character. There are other character models like a tube mics, soft saturation, FETs and a lot of other stuff. You can run all of this straight into Logic.

I haven't used any of the older versions of the Metric Halo stuff, but this thing is great for what it does and the cost.

How do I do that? LOL! What application do I use? :)

There's a button on the bottom of your master fader in the mixer view that says "bnce", or File menu -> Bounce...

Great! I will definitely check that out! :)

I'm a total newbie!

and btw, I haven't gotten any e-mail
