Hello fellows
Long time ago I started this thread, when the aforementioned guitar wasn’t mine.

Well now it is (sorta). My buddy sold it to me.
Unbeknownst to me he had 3 diff sets of pups installed in this thing and it still sounded like mud. He never would let me get to the cavity and try to measure anything so here we go.

Took a reading across the two outer lugs of the tone pot and got 24.2….consistently. I’m thinking this pot was intended for actives and somehow got installed ?? Or it’s just a bad pot? It’s got a coil split on the tone…could this wiring scheme have an impact on the value reading?

I'm guessing that resistor is wired into the coil split switch, right?

Hard to say from the pic, but that value seems off to me. Not sure why, but if it was mine, I'd rewire the whole thing. Something ain't right

EMG's use 25k pots, so yeah that could very well be what was happening, and it would explain why passives sound too dark in there.

With the pot wired up, you may reading the pot with something else in parallel. To be sure I’d unsolder the pot jacks and recheck. If it’s still 24k, that would probably explain the blanket sound. I’d replace with a 500k and you should be good.

Any recommendations ?
Need the best 500k for this setup.
CE24 PRS. 85/15 pups
Push pull tone pot

Thanks guys for the comments.

CTS 500k DPDT push-pull should do what you want. Several places you can get them from, not hard to find.

Edit: Since you're going to be in there, anyway, you might want to replace the volume pot or at least check it to make sure it's wired correctly and of the right value and type. 500K should be fine there, too. I'd at least check the switch wiring, grounding, jack, and tone cap, just to make sure everything is nice and tight with no cold joints or loose connections.

PRS has wiring diagrams on their site, I believe. If not, just ask and I or someone here can point you in the right direction.
