Things not to do on the internet:

Use your real name.

Post pictures of yourself or your family members.

Point out where you live.

Point out where you work.

Post pictures of your guns or guitars especially where serial numbers are visible.

Reveal the name of your band if you don’t want people seeing your videos or reading reviews and commenting on them.

Talk extensively about your family, with names, locations and pictures.

If you do these things you’re an idiot. If you do these things and then get upset when people discuss these things you should remember you only have yourself to blame.

So true...

If I didn't follow these rules I'd have to change my username and avatar every three months or so.

That ship sailed for me years ago. I’ve had an online presence since highschool.
Curious – what would you suggest for teenagers in terms of revealing personal identity or adding anything online that could be tracked back to them? Do you regret it?

Once you've retired like I have it doesn't matter if people know who you are. What's going to happen - get sacked from work for my views? Who's going to sack me.

Technically we did have the Internet and even computers connected to it. I would see these guys spending lunch hour doing something in the computer lab while I was going out to ride my skateboard and smoke weed. I thought to myself they were the biggest dorks ever. I couldn’t even believe it — it was like the movies or something.

When I was in high school it was still the age of the 5 1/4" floppy disk. I think the computer lab had Commodore 64's and maybe even Vic 20's. Some of them might have even had tape drives.

Yep we had those in grade school and the 3 1/2 inch floppies in high school. I thought that was pretty high-tech. A buddy had a commodore 64 and we had some kind of Apple which I guess was kind of special but I never paid attention to it unless I had to write a paper or something.

It was probably an Apple Macintosh.

I have never once uttered my actual name on the internet. When I still had my band we had a FB, but I still used an alias, the same one I use here. Obviously the people who knew me, knew it was me but... There are some people, including a few people here, that know my name because I have corresponded with them outside of here.
